Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 40 000k's, another oil change...

    Hey all.
As mentioned earlier on, i'm doing my own in-betweeny oil/filter changes to bring the interval down to 10 000 k's.

Anyways, while i was down there with the 'bash plate' off, i noticed this bit of seepage... :

Not a lot of oil, & none of it has made it's way onto the top of the plastic bash plate, but any reason for concern? I s'pose motors tend to get a bit oily looking as time marches on...

Good to see minimal oil use, poured 4.4l of old oil back into a bottle with no top-ups over the 10K. 4.7l capacity. Came around rather quick, though a 4-&-a-bit-K roady at Christmas-time saw the km's clocking up quickly...

Here's a shot with filter off:

Great to not have oil dribble everywhere when you unscrew the filter!

    One last photo:

Great oil filter wrench, also handy for getting difficult lids off jars!

I hope those two pieces of wood are super strong!! (maybe put some more bricks underneath the wheels?)
Car looks fantastic, how did you get the two red stripes on the grill?

Looks like a 19" rims, how's the ride?

        Hey,

The red stripes are just pin-striping. I was experimenting with the 'look' & it's hanging in there so i'll leave it on ! Was inspired by the red accents on the GTI... May have it painted on one day...

Yep, 19's. Ride is marginally rougher, i would hazard a guesstimate at 7.5% rougher ride than stock Boston's. Have been told i'm a pretty good guesstimater, BTW!!

        Cheers, Matt.

ps, Anyone have advice on the seepage shown?
