Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Top speed of Tig 118TSI

I got an opportunity to try out top speed today.
Both directions to rule out wind.
1000km on clock and roof racks on. Aircon off.
It easily got to 140 and then 160km. It was probably still creeping up and felt like it might have got to 170/5 with enough time but I'm going to call 160 the useable top speed.
Forget to stopwatch but between 15-20 secs.
Tried it in 5th and 6th, didn't seem to make much difference.
    Does that seem about right?
Roof racks would have taken 5km off.
Engine still tight? I've certainly been using the full rev range though

There are quite a few 'Youtube' videos of speed runs on autobahns for the Tiguan which indicate a much higher speed. For my part I am more interested in higher mileage and consistently getting above 1000km per tank. Gives me my warm inner glow. And I agree with Mr T 1000km is too soon to be testing top speeds.

I can't speak for the 118TSI but i know the 2.0TSI will go to 170 easily with some assistance.

          Tech data section 3.5 in the manual reckons 201kph for a manual 125TSI, 210 for a 147 manual & 186 for a 103TDI manual.

I've seen the 118TSI Golf do 227kph on an Autobahn on YouTube, can't remember if they had Stage 1 (APR) or not though. Not sure how much the extra weight of the Tig and not having Stage 1 would hold you back, but I've got a feeling that with more room you could improve on your result.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.
