Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i keep getting a message to check deadlock every time i'm turning off my car .. what is it referring to?

i ask my sales rep, and he says it refer to the steering wheel lock .. but i don't believe him .. LOL ..

(oops i meant to post this at the tiguan sub forum, admin can you please help to move?)

My golf says that. I believe it's reminding you that with one push of the lock button all the doors are dead locked, ie they can't be opened from the inside. Two quick pushes of the lock button removes the dead lock so if you've left someone in the car they can get out.

Same on my Skoda and epic is correct, once to lock inside as well, twice to allow doors to be opened from inside. I wonder if this helps for security also, i.e. if window smashed door sill won't open and thief would have to crawl in through broken window?

Somehow I can't see a thief breaking a window and then deciding there is nothing worth stealing because the door won't open. The vehicle itself is harder to steal because of the complex computer control systems, however the same protection does not come with the contents, and deadlocking a door where you can simply reach in and extract the items seems a little unnecessary.

I guess it would help for carjacking areas or countries...cant exactly drag someone out of the window?
