Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Front end scrivet replacement questions

Hi all, I've just taken delivery of my new MY12 TDI 103 DSG and have had the NSW classic euro plates fitted. The front is a slimline plate and the dealer has fitted / left on, the usual plastic plate holder (not sure what the technical term is for this part). Anyway IMO it looks crap so after a fair bit of mucking around I've removed this part and now have the plate fixed directly to the bumper. The only issue with this is that VW thoughtfully has made the bumper with 2 x holes that now need filling. I've been on a mission to Supa Cheap Auto to get some Xmas tree clips but couldnt find the right size to suit the holes.

Can anyone here help me with the following:

    1. A suitable replacement part that will fill the holes neatly and not look too dodgy
    2. The VW part number for the original scrivets

The ultimate would be to have the bumper plastic welded or similar and resprayed to cover. That's a little excessive and I reckon a bit too expensive an option.

Anyone else done such a thing as I'm attempting?
