Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The DSG gearbox on my 2010 147 Tiguan decided to stop working yesterday, we were heading out for a drive just got 2km out of town when it jumped out of gear into neutral.

I did manage to get manage to limp home but on have 2nd and 4th grears . The gear indicator light is flashing with a spanner on it and the engine light is on.

Took it to the dealer today they are waiting to hear back from Sydney to see if it needs a new Mactronic unit ? or new clutches if they have parts in Sydney it will be ok but iam not holding my breath.

The Tig has done 24,000 km with no other probs so far.

I was pretty confident ordering the DSG as i have a Caddy van 111,000km with no issues at all . I have a Newsagency and we use the Caddy to deliver newspapers so it gets a pertty good work out . I have read other stories of DSG issues no I have experianced it.

But still a great car I love it

Good news, Bad News, dealer confirmed yesterday that the Mactronic unit needs to be replaced, Good news , there is one in stock in Sydney.
Hope to have the car back by Wednesday, expensive repair for VW i think.

      Thankfully it was under warranty.
I like the idea of the DSG box but i don't like the thought of having my car fail on me and cost a boat load to fix.

I do like the 7 speed DSG ,quick shifting , good fuel economy, but now my Tig 147 has broken the DSG with just 24,000km iam a little worried about my Caddy Van 1.9 DSG with 110,000km om the clock . To date ive had no issues at all , but iam starting to think should i trade it as mine is now out of warranty. The Caddy is my work bus and is perfect for the job I was originaly thinking of keeping the Caddy for 250,000-300,000km . But now Iam not so sure maybe iam better to trade it now for another Caddy and keep it until the warranty runs out

hmmm, I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands dsg's running around with hundreds of thousands of k's on them. They really can't be that bad / unreliable. Only issue is, they can be expensive to repair - but this isn't unique to VW, they all are these days.
