  • Off Road Pack for MY 12 Tig

Gday all, I have recently placed an order for a MY 12 Tig with pretty much every option. However trawling through the forum I realized the Tigs seem to have an off road option. This was never mentioned to me by the dealer and I have not been able to see this option anywhere in the brochures.

Can anyone confirm if the off road pack is a offered in Aus and if this is a factory fitted option or not?

The car has not been allocated a build week yet hence am assuming I can make an addition to the specs of I need to. Would be great if anyone can confirm this for me.

    Thanks

    Bman

I have heard that the offroad tech is not available in the new model but I'd double check with the dealer to be sure.

Nope - one of the options (like Dynaudio - sigh...) that was deleted from local availability for MY2012

I too recall hearing that the off road pack had been removed on the pacific models. Saying that if it's available get it! For $270 it's probably the cheapest option VW offer. It's a very clever piece of tech if you ever leave sealed roads with slopes.

I believe that even in Europe the 2012 only has the off-road pack if you buy the escape model with the chisel nose etc. Strange thing is that that's the ONLY body shape that NA is getting and they CAN'T get the off-road pack !!!

Dealer (Chatswood Classic Cars) confirmed to me that the MY 12 Tig does not have the Off Road Pack as an option. That is a bummer. I wander how the Tig will manage rough terrain without Off Road Tech.

It'll be OK as long as you take it slowly, even the standard Tig is much more capable than many realise, it's Haldex system is the same as in some LR models, just programmed a bit differently, but it is capable of putting most power to the non-spinning wheel etc etc (actually works using the ABS to brake the other wheels). Thing is to not go at things like a bull at a gate, give the system time to decide what it will do and TRY switching the ESP off if you get into difficulty, it may help.

                  Cheers

Agre Derek, though I think its a shame VW dropped it, I am sure the cost to VW was minimal and one option would have been to make it standard.

When the Tig came out, that was one of the options that seprated the Tig from the other AWDs, so shame in my opinion. With that said on the marketing front it probably makes sense for the bulk of buyers, though like winning racers I always reckon there is value to increasing street cred to off road ability etc, that people like to be associated with

Oh well, never know might improve the resale of the older models that did get it?
