Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tiggy Exhaust query.......

Guys, this question may have already been asked but given the fact that aftermarket exhausts for our Tiggy's are far and few between (and costly), my mind has been running rampant and thinking of other options....
I don't know about you guys, but I think the MK6 GTI exhaust note is pretty cool..... nice and low and throaty and I have been thinking about how to splice one of those twin outlet babies into my Tig!
I'm not sure if it has been tried before or if it is even possible but does anyone know if it has been tried??
I know there would have to be some playing around with supports and hangers for the muffler not to mention the rear valance would require some minor surgery to allow the extra pipe out the ass end but guys..... I'm keen as mustard!
I'm an Engineer myself but I'm lacking access to a workshop now.....If I had a tig welder and a mandrel pipe bender in my garage I would make it work but unfortunately I don't so testing the waters with you all.....
Just think, twin pipes, good sound............................................. .....................................
    Thoughts!!

I fealt the same but it was too difficult for me to be bothered so i just got them to remove the whole rear muffler and put a mandrel bent 3" stainles steel delete pipe going to twin Xforce tips.
Sound Clip can be found here:

Now it can be a bit loud on wide open throttle so i would suggest if you want a subdued version that you look into a resonator delete as this will retain the muffler but net you a more burblier note while still retaining a muffling section as well as losing the most restricive flow section of the cat-back.

Nindey has done his however I am yet to get a video out of him to compare.

This is the closest i could find for you:

We are always binning new Golf R & GTI exhausts, so maybe pick up a scrap one really cheap & cut it up & try? Most APR Dealers have to make a dump run every now & then, so you might pick one up real cheap.

P.S. We only get about $4-00 scrap for each catback as only the mufflers are stainless.

Team V, thanks mate, I have checked this post out before, sounds good!!!

Guy, thanks for that piece of info..... I built a full stainless exhaust once before for my old Nissan Pulsar GTI-R back in NZ, tell you mate, I miss workshop access!!, I'll keep an eye out, then again, welders and pre-bent stainless are getting cheaper.... I could bite the bullet and go home build, I love to play!!

I would also love to improve the sound.

What do you guys think of the set-ups that allow you to vary the opening by a remote?

Techtonics do a full turbo back system and a cat back system, not sure if they have a dealer in AU though?
