  • Does the 125 TSI have a timing belt or chain??

I have been told that the timing belt needs changing at 85,000 on a 125 TSI?

Is this correct? I thought this engine had a chain, not belt....

    Thanks

        Where is the oil filter?
LHS front, spin on type pointing upwards has a timing chain.

Middle of engine, at front, cartridge type, pointing down has timing belt.

Thanks guys...I think Matt at Camden GTI better inform his staff a little better then.

I wanted to book in for a minor service, but was told that it would soon need a timing belt done!

Not the best first impression of the place after recommending so many friends to go there, and now about to go there myself!

Chain, right? as everyone says same engine as mk6 golf.

            sorry for hi-jacking post
isnt the chain should last the same time as the engine?

if it's any consolation, they would have realised as soon as the bonnet was open.

                true...

Matt has called me himself to confirm, and took the booking. All good now...

I guess the office guys should be better educated...

As brad said, as soon as would they lifted the bonnet they would know. Anyone can make mistake like that, especially when there are more engine options.

The guys in the office are wimmen . They do their best but ultimately their skillset is running the office. If they got the sack tomorrow they might be working the reception in a dental surgery as their next job.
The "other" guys are general hands / parts dismantlers, so their forte is older VW product. To be honest, even Matt isn't totally on top of the new stuff - he's a manager & doesn't need to be. The guy that counts is the bloke in the workshop.

I take my hat off to Matt. He's a relatively small business & he employs a lot of people & has invested a lot of money. I wish him all success in his business.

                      I agree Brad,

I didnt mean to Dis him...I have as I said referred at least four people to him as I appreciate his whole approach to business...I was just a little suprised that his guy in the office did not know the basics of a common VW product...

Its all good though...I have booked it in for a service this week.
