  • front suspension problems

gidday everyone, we have a rattle in the front that I suspect is a problem in the front suspension somewhere

I remember seeing some posts/a thread a few months back with others who had had a similar problem, and it sounded like a not uncommon issue and one that could be fixed easily

I have searched in vein so far to find, and have looked at the "care and info" and the "first stop - shortcut to..." stickies to no avail.

If anyone knows what I am talking about appreciate any pointers to the relevant thread(s)

    cheers

It's not the wastegate rattle? Sorry cant remember if that's the correct term.

I have more of a creaking noise than rattle at slow speed and steering wheel at full lock, when turning/parking.

Changing directions quickly at slow speeds from full lock also produces a distinct 1 knock sound.

Seems to be apparent only when in Drive, but not when reversing.

Not sure whether these are similar to your situation, but definitely suspect suspension or steering rack issue for me.

Unfortunately just haven't had time to just book in a warranty service. Also have one dodgey front sensor that goes off whenever it rains or gets wet.

But more importantly, I just don't know which stealer to trust to fix these problems!

From past experience, suspension problems are a real b!tch to detect and fix.
A lot of guess work involved, trial and error even for the seasoned mechanic!
And car just never feels the same again, after it's been tampered with in this area.

Here is one thread with the rattle.

I looked through the titles of all 869 threads in Tiguan section and there is none named suspension rattle. Hence the need to name the thread correctly when posting, so it is always easy to find. That not necessarily means you.

The doors tend to creak a bit. Generously lubing the latches solves this.

I have seen one where one of the swaybar links was loose.

              Hi Mate,

I have noticed your issue re noisy front end squeaks.

I posted a thread many months back stating that I had the same problem.

After many many many return trips to the dealer, they discovered that the control arms were faulty, causing a squeaking grinding noise. I especially noticed it when slowly going over speed bumps etc...

It sounded like squeaky bed springs, or rusty gate hinges...just to give you an idea...

Follow it up with the dealer, and ask them to replace the two control arms...I bet that solves the issue...

Let us know how it goes.

If you want the part numbers etc they used with my job, just PM me and I will pass on the dealer invoice number and my rego number for them to see what was done on my Tigaun. This may assist you.

Will be interested to see whether this was the problem Jimbo. Hopefully they don't notice the spacers and try blame that!

Just soemthing to keep an eye on with your bash plate (as I had a problem with mine) is that over time the engine mounts appear to softenand you end up with the gearbox rattling against the plate (at least I think it's the gearbox). Made quite a horrible noice when decellerating and reversing hard - after 2 trips back to the dealer they diagnosed that was the problem and left my plate off. I have some padding I plan on glueing to the plate before I reattach it... homefully this is not the sound you are talking about.

                    Tigger & Jimbomort,

I have a rattle in the front suspension too, sounds like washers rattling, when going over bumps. Wife took it to the dealer and they first said it was normal for tiguans and then said they couldn't hear it very much! Then told her it was nothing to worry about! I hear the noise all the time. I will have to take it back.

Tigger would you mind if I PM'd you for the part no's of the control arms?

ours bashplate is working loose and rattling quite a bit at the moment, but think thats just a loose bolt, will probably have a go at that this w/e

I also think it is a different problem, though fixing that will show for sure.

We haven't take her in yet

                            Hi Jimbomort,
I know I am revisiting an old thread, but just wondering if you ever found the cause of the noises in your Tig? Mine has clunking/rattling noise when going over rough road at low speed, which I suspect to be from the steering rack?! Also have an irregular knocking noise from somewhere on RH side of car - sounds like it could be in the door. Used to hear it only when on really rough road, but now there all the time. Told the dealer at first service and their solution was to lube the door locks - obviously didn't work
                            Cheers

Have had this annoying problem also. But mine are more noticeable going in reverse.

When mentioned it to dealer, they also said it's normal and even blamed it on the auto hold.

Will attempt to bring it up again at next service.

I'd suggest emptying out the back seat and boot when you next see them and see if you can replicate the noises.
That way they can't blame it on anything and hopefully pinpoint it a bit better.
