Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • MY2012 Tiguan - Rear Brake lights and indicators - using LED Bulbs/Footwell lighting

    Hi all,

Hope this thread hasn't been asked previously. In any case, here goes:

1).What type of bulb is used in the rear brake lights of MY2012 Tiguans. I doubt they'd be different from the MY2011 Tiguans

    Why do i ask?
I'd like to change the current factory installed rear brake lights and indicators to LED. Is this possible and is it easy to do? I was thinking of using the 12V LED bulbs promoted on:

LED Lights, Bulbs & Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS

2). If I change the rear brake lights and side indicators, would I require a electronic LED flashers or load resistors for the rear left and right indicators?

3). On the MY2012 Tiguan TDI model, it states that it has no footwell ambient lighting. Is that because A). There's simply no bulb in that area? and B). Can I simply install an LED or ordinary bulb to enable ambient lighting in the footwell of both passenger and driver side?

Apologies, I know it's a lot of questions within a thread.. you guys have been quite helpful

    Peace

I would probably use the LED globes all around the car, if I would find the ones that work without error light on the dash. Other issue you could have; they may be illegal in the stop lights, indicators and other lights.

See the message in the link you posted. "For aftermarket use. May not comply with SAE or U.S. DOT standards"
However most people get away with using illegal lights on their cars.

There definitely is footwell lighting on the MY12 TDI.

Thanks Transporter - Exactly. LED brake lights look better as they turn on and off instantaneously. In brake lights, that's really important

On the 2012 VW Australian marketing PDF for Tiguan, it says that there's no ambient footwell lighting, other than on the Tiggy 155 TSI. I don't have the car yet Damn excited!

Transporter, do you know what bulbs are used in the rear brake lights and turn indicators? If i know what they are, i'm going to make a purchase and will probably attempt to install them myself, or go to my local mechanic who works on Euro cars.

I didn't pull one out yet, but in the owners manual there should be a table with what type of globes goes where.
I just noticed that you don't have yours yet, maybe someone will tell us. It well could be the same as in my11, I will look later in our Tig.

I thought I read somewhere that the footwell lighting came with the Comfort Pack (but I can't seem to find where I saw that...)

To clarify my initial post: yes, the footwell lights are part of the comfort pack.

Cool! Thanks for the info!. Is there any illumination in the footwell area for the rear passengers? Glad I got the comfort pack!

Give me a moment, I'll pop over to the garage and let you know...

-> There's no footwell light for the rear passengers. The front footwell lights can be controlled through the MFD where brightness can be increased/decreased in 5% increments or turned off.
