Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tiguan towbar wiring

Hi fellow tiggy owners - when I purchased my new Tiguan 147 (just over 12 months ago in Canberra) I had a towbar fitted which also included the wiring harness, now 2 months ago it went in for its first service and I complained that when the trailer is hooked up the reverse sensors keep on beeping (drives me nuts) so they said they would order an adapter which will cancel the reverse sensors when the harness is connected - ok I thought but nearly 2 months on I am still waiting

anyway, last weekend I had to replace the complete wiring harness and lights on the trailer which was completed with no issues so I reversed the tiggy up and connected it, during the test I noticed that the both brake lights/left indicator were out so I checked out the new lights at the rear and all appeared ok so what's going on here? So I grabbed another vehicle and plugged the trailer into it and all the lights work as they should - that is left&right indicator/brake/parkers - mmm. I remembered that the boot light had never worked since new so this was addressed at the first service...I reckon someone forgot to plug the light in when they were installing the harness, I had also noticed that since new the warning light on the dash was on indicating a light fault whenever a trailer was plugged in (3 different trailers for that matter) so it turns out that it looks like the tiggy is at fault - had a look around the various forums on vwwatercooled and can see that there are issues with the Euro plug and the conversion to the Oz 7 pin plug - what's the best approach?

Why was the harness replaced?? Also i'm aware that if the coding is not done properly it will cause faults this coding has to be done at the dealer as the coding must be done online. The parking sensor modue will need to be double checked if its coded correctly also. This is the one i'm sure may need to be coded online from memory?? I suggest you take it back to dealer and have them carry out all relevant tests.

Sounds as if it was never installed and/or coded correctly in the first place because it should have switched off the rear sensors by itself NO extra sensor needed. You quite sure they rigged it correctly from day one ?? If you lock the Tig with the alarm on and then disconnect the trailer plug does the alarm go off ? cos it certainly should !! My worry would be that it was never installed correctly at all and that all the electronic extras that the Tig has for towing including ABS adjustment and anti-sway etc aren't working either !!

      Cheers

I think you would be right re the install and coding...rang them today to ask about the wiring harness, wastegate clip that was ordered at the first service (2 months ago) and they were unable to find any records - great service for you and can see where this is going to go - bl**dy dealers

I don't have an alarm - well not that I am aware of?

OK, they're fitted standard here on all Tigs that's all. Have a look low down on your B-pillar, drivers side, and see if there's a warning light and switch (they're VERY hard to see if you have a black interior), if they're there you do have an alarm as that's the switch to turn off the interior motion sensors and the tilt sensor on the alarm. The only other thing that shows on mine is a red LED in front of the mirror adjustment knob that flashes when the alarm is set.

          Cheers

Probably is, on thinking about it I've seen it in ALL pics of Tiguans and they don't all have alarms so that'll be what it is alright.

              Cheers
