Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'd really like a Tig as our second car, but I want it to be able to tow our 1400kg camper trailer that has 150kg ball weight.
Just load your trailer appropriately so that the ball weight goes down to 100Kg (which is ample regardless of the 10% "story" touted around by some, the Brits regularly do it, and of course all dual axle trailers do it !!) and the Tig will cope just fine (as long as the trailer is braked of course !!).

    Cheers

Trailer is loaded appropriately. I also have a built in margin of error, so even if I could get it down to 100kg, it would still be too close to the Tiguans capacity to have me worried (and with water tanks at the rear, the nose weight would increase for the trip home).

Well if you can't get the ball weight down to 100kg (Usually that's no big deal moving stuff around a bit) and you're not prepared to tow above that (which I agree with totally) you'll just have to buy a different tow vehicle. I don't see the new model being any different than the current one, it's all to do with the squatting of the rear suspension and the lifting of the front for braking etc. Sorry.

          Would an Amarok do?

Yep I was just wondering. Short of unbolting water tanks and batteries that weight ain't gonna change much ...

Too big. I already have a Pajero anyway, this is just to replace the Jetta as a town car and it would have been nice to have it be able to do towing duties as well. Not critical.

Just as well I did a search. Will definitely wait for this facelifted one. Can't like the current model's droopy headlights enough to buy one yet. That metallic dark blue is very nice.....

the camper trailer weighs 1400kg? man that is heavy. Our 7*4 trailer weighs about 200kg empty and would be only 400-450 with all our camping gear loaded in it and a kayak thrown on top. Easy to keep the ball weight down on that. On ball weights, I'm guessing almost all the smaller SUVs and cars are going to have a ball weight of 100kg or less, think our outback was 75kg. Either way if that trailer weight is right, thats one heavy trailer to lug around.

100L of water, 40L of fuel, 80kgs of batteries, etc etc etc ... it all adds up. Heavy duty camper.

seriously considering if I should wait.... grrrrrr

Just out of curiosity - when did you order? We ordered our Tiggy in December but still haven't got a build date yet. Surely it would be getting pretty close to the changeover of production for the facelifted model.

So we're not too sure if we'll get the old model, or the new one.

Would VW deliver a new look model if we ordered the previous one? How does that work?

The locally manufactured - Bosal - OEM LR2 towhitch with a bolt-on ball states that the max vertical load is 130kg, with the bracketry able to tow 2300kg.

Either way, the nameplate on any towbar should explicitly state this.

Article in today's SMH: Nine new Volkswagens on their way

                            Of interest is this:
Golf-based compact SUV, Tiguan, will also receive the new frontal treatment while adding new tail lamps, and other “undisclosed” technical upgrades.

At the present time, Tiguan is available locally with a choice of (103kW) 2.0 TDI and two grades (125kW and 147kW) of the petrol powered 2.0 TSI engine. Volkswagen says the much anticipated second-generation Tiguan will be launched internationally in June alongside an as yet unnamed model. Both models will be available in Australia from late September.
Perhaps we'll finally get the Track and Field version? Not sure what is meant by an "unnamed" model

Thanks for the link. I wouldn't hold my breath for the track and field but you never know.

Or 2WD only version, like most other softroaders?
