Hi All,
I haven't found anyone on the forum who has used or thought about using a turbo blanket / cover.
For those that don't know - it is put over the exhaust side of turbo and will keep underhood temperatures down and help keep heat contained within the turbo, helping it spool quicker.
13 years ago i used the Thermotec exhaust tape on a Jap import turbo conversion and it kept temperatures down alot, but didnt know about the turbo covers then, dont think they were widely available??
I have just rediscovered the Thermotec brand and thought the turbo covers could be an option. The link below is for a T3-T4 sized turbo - obviously too big for standard Tig turbo - BUT they also sell a generic kit that supplies the shielding material to cut down to suit your application. There are other brands around.
Just thought of some possible problems: The turbo would take longer to cool down as the heat isnt disepating??
and life of turbo maybe shortened due to excess heat?
I haven't had a good enough look at the Tig to see if it has its own metal heat sheild??
Thoughts anyone?
