  • Keep my tiguan or buy another one or something else.

Lease is nearly up and i have two options:

pay $18,000 and keep it (2008 manual diesel with satnav, leather, fog lights, comfort pack etc.. and only 35,000 k's) nearly out of warranty too.

sell it off and buy another - or, something else.

Do i save some hard earned dollars and keep it, or update and start again? There ain't many other cars my wife and i like, but we are also worried the 100kg towball limit might create an issue if we want to buy a van down the track.

    Would appreciate some opinions.

Upgrade when you get van. The current Tiguan is at the end of production and a new model will be coming soon. That's what I would do.

Interesting that the 100kg towball limit is only an issue in Ausi. In europe the Tig won tow-car of the year somewhere and the poms tow all sorts of vans with them up to 2000kg without any issues at all, ditto the Kiwis. Personally I don't have a heavy van to tow but I would NEVER have a towball weight that's so heavy I can't lift it easily, no matter what I'm towing, I simply pack it so the load balance is reasonable. I've also found that when you're getting up in the weight with vans they tend to be on duals anyway which limits the towball load even more. This is the only forum where I've seen people suggesting that 10% of the overall weight should be on the towbar (so limiting the Tiguan to 1000kg towing in theory). To me, you limit the tow weight to 2000kg (or whatever your Tig's particular limit is) and then ensure that the towball weight doesn't exceed 100kg, if both those criteria are OK then away you go. I do realise that certain setups make this impossible so there are exceptions to what you can tow but most vans particularly can be loaded to suit these criteria.

        Cheers

Simple, sell it and buy a touareg - as good as the tig, but you can tow whatever you like.

if you like the car and your only real concern is the towball weight, then I'd keep it. Per Dereks post, there is quite a lot you can tow with the Tig and stay within the 100kg ball weight limit.

I know that there is a H/D tow bar for T5 van. Maybe there is the one for the Tiguan as well?
