Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Australian Bonnet Protector - Part Number?

G'Day folks - from Calgary, Canada.
I am hoping a kind Antipodean might be able to help me out here. My wife's 2010 Tiguan has a 3M clear bra on the front bumper, fenders, lights and hood. Still, we find this is not enough protection in a place that lays down gravel on the roads in winter; the leading edge of her hood has half-a-dozen stone chips (in the exposed 1mm or so of paint right at the edge of the hood).

So, I've been looking around for a clear Bonnet Protector (in North America called a Hood Bug Deflector). The only local versions of that deflector are a dark smoked acrylic (see here); not exactly the look we are after in our silver Tig. In fact, the only "hits" I get for a clear version is VW Australia.

The 3 local VW dealers are being less than helpful. Any chance that a member here with a clear bonnet protector would still have the VW Australia part number handy? It would be much appreciated. The attached photo was lifted from this site (to the owner, your royalty cheque is in the mail) - to show what I am after.

Awesome Phil - many thanks man! That was a great help.
Now for the next step in this mission: getting a Calgary-based dealer to order one of these in.

            rete,
i have the 3M Venture film fitted to the front of the 147 and it lips in under the front edge of the bonnet- it in fact covers the entire front of the car grille and all.
maybe ask whoever fitted your film to have another crack at it? as those plastic bug protectors look like crap !!- sorry really spoil the front of your prized Tig.
            regards

              Hi epilot,
Our 3M film is a total front-end wrap that covers the lower 1/3d of the hood, front portion of the fenders, the grille, bumper, headlights, foglights and the mirrors. It was installed spring of 2010 almost 1 year ago, and (in North America at least) is cut from a template which I assume is provided to installers by the manufacturer.

I would love to get the hood portion reinstalled and tucked around the front lip of the bonnet, and it looks like it will have to be a custom job by the installer (costing $$$). It may have to be the way to go; none of the Calgary VW dealers I contacted this morning is willing to order VGA823006 in for me; one claimed that it is probably an Australia-specific part as it is not available in their system as a VWAG part number.
              Cheers.

Thanks mate. You guys are lucky to have had this long weekend; we got Friday at most (and many not even Friday) over the easter weekend.

None of the Calgary VW dealers I contacted this morning is willing to order VGA823006 in for me; one even claimed that it is probably a part that is specific to VW Australia as they cannot see it in the "system" as a VW AG part number. I'll investigate some other options; one (as epilot suggested) is a re-install of the 3M to wrap around the leading edge; another might be contacting some VW dealers downunder and convincing one of them to ship it to Canada.

                  rete,
i had the front end of my GTi re wrapped for $150, cant imagine the Tig would be much more?
if however you want to pursue the ugly plastic thingy i'd be happy to work with you and source one locally for export- may be some issue with box size and we would need to sort that out prior to ordering.
                  regards

epilot, thanks a ton for the offer. I'm mulling my options; thankfully winter's just finished and it's 5 months before it starts again so I have some time.
