Looked at this more closely today and I have to say what an overengineered piece of work it is. Instead of a simple catch there are two. There are also two buttons which, even when presssed together do not turn off the glovebox light, yet magically when it is almost closed the light turns off. The thickness of plastic and fit are quite impressive.
It also has an A/C outlet into the glovebox and that is what I was trying to determine was working when I started to examine it. I cannot get a flow of cool air from it. I thought it might be controlled by the switch that controls the glovebox light but even when the light turns off and it is almost shut I cannot sense a flow of A/C air from it. I know there is a rotating switch and have opened this.
Has anyone got one that blasts out cold air into the glovebox or has some insight into the workings of potential marvel?
