Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • What tyres to get for the Tiguan?

Hi guys, my stock pirelli P6 is less than 50%, so just want to know what people have replace them with?

I reckon the stock pirelli's are very good tyres for our ****ty road conditions, it provides nice grip and comfort.

So just curious if anyone have any opinions or experience with other alternative tyres compare to the pirelli.

PS most my travel is around country roads & in-out of town, but i don't go off road.

Hi mine came with Dunlop Sport 07's and so far the ride and quality is great esp given they are 18's. I suspect they are a soft compound (Made in Germany), having had Audi's with Continetials on them these have that same look, so I am not expecting longevity.

      Tyre sizes help.

I used Carbonblack - car parts, tyres and car services to compare tyres in my size for customer reviews.
Currently rocking the Kumho KU31's and they are sticky and low noise.

My Tig came with Hankooks. No criticism so far.[Tig is one month old]However I had the misfortune to have a jagged piece of metal picked up out on the road somewhere.Went really deep into the tyre and went flat as.The tyre has been repaired by a dealer but I am not totally confident that it's going to last. My problem now is that I cant get a new Hankook here in Perth for love nor money.Wholesaler reckons they are a month away. That sucks.Stick with the Pirelli's mate.

I went to buy some Pirelli P6's for another car and they had a removable sticker saying they were made in China. Surprised me a bit. So don't buy them because you think they come from Europe!

We're running a set of Australian made Bridgestone 683's - good quiet tyre in the 215/65R16 size. But the Bridgestone factory closed last year, so not sure where they come from now.

Standard wheels. I have Pirellis from new on mine and have been quite happy with them. They are quiet running (highway speeds) and seem quite stable at speed and in the wet. I can't shift them but that may be the Tig AWD system which just seems to grip the road no matter what I do to try and shift them. I use Michelin Latitude on my Prado and I am VERY impressed with them so depending on price will probably move to those next. Has anyone used Michelin Latitudes on the Tiguan and have comments?

For 16" standard wheels, Maxxis have new tyre out, called B-600, looks nice, is said to have been designed for handling ad quietness.
