  • Audi Q3

Wow it looks and sounds like a Tig with a different tailgate and headlights...but about $10-$20k more expensive.
    Revealed: New Audi Q3

I don't think it looks anything like a Tiguan, personally I don't like its looks at all and certainly here in NZ you're talking at least 25% dearer than a Tiguan for similar specs. I had thought I might be tempted (have had my Tig for 3 years) but I've decided that it's not worth changing (even to a new Tig, even to a facelifted Tig) !!

    Cheers

It won't be 20k more as the Q5 is in that price range.
Apparently it won't even begin production until later this year for new orders in mid 2012.

Not a fan of the aesthetics.
Looks like someone took an Audi A1 and expanded it in every direction while adding curves to it.
Doubt it will sell well here if it looks like that.

Not really sure where you are going with this.

My comment about the a1 was for aesthetic purposes only.

I agree with you there team_v. There are clearly many styling queues from the A1 in the Q3. Motoring sites and journalists have also pointed this out, so it's not just a few "enthusiastic VAG crazies"

That's no surprise though. Audi and VW both have been following a "brand image" for decades now. A totally new model gets released and has a brand new "corporate image", and then all model refreshes or new model launches thereafter integrate that new corporate image.

I disagree about the 'aesthetics'. I think it looks much better than a Tiguan and will sell really well here.

I remember when my friends dad bought a Tiguan, we were both thinking 'what the hell is that thing?' I've grown to accept them though.

Whatever the A3 to Golf sales ratio is, I'd imagine the Q3 to Tiguan ratio will be pretty similar.

aesthetics is a personal thing and a contextual one. I agree more with Team V, but that is in the context of it beign a soft roader. As a wagon it looks fine. From the few X1's I have seen on the road, they look more like a wagon than a softroader and initial impressions from those pics are its going the same as the X1.

Anyway I dont really want something that I like much better than the Tig to come out at 15-20k higher. I have no intention of replacing anytime soon and we love our Tig - look forward to driving it every single time. When that wears off (hasn't in two years).....will start looking around then. So far neither the X1 or the Q3 are creating any desire for change on my part.

And like all cars, would need to see it in the flesh and drive it to reach a true conclusion. Some cars look good from far, but are far from good!

Based on the votes on do you like the look of it on that weblink, as @ now its on a winner, about %82 were yes and only 12% no.

The problem with the CUV type vehicles is the cost.
The tiguan cost is already prohibitive for a lot of people so the consider the ASX/Forrester etc as you get a lot of options for the same price as a standard Tiguan.

Add 5-10k on and people will wonder why they pay more to get "less" even more

sure, and everyones assessment of value is different. Some of us go all the bells and whistles, others minimalist but spend money on get up and go and others on raising the car and adding bash plates (not that I know anyone who is doing that......)

in terms of what you get for a particular car each to his own, but in choosing between cars I find peoples priorities interesting. For me I'd much rather have a car I love the feel of, than one with shiny knobs and bells and whistles that drives well.....errr hum.

and while not everything the engine is the heart of the car and boy what a heart the TSI is with the APR upgrade. To think I could have had a lacklustre 2.5 forester with 4 speed auto instead................oh god

I wouldn't buy Q3 even if the price was the same as Tiguan's.

Another point is one is German made the other Spanish - paying fo the badge IMO.

Much better looking outside than the Tig IMO, and I much prefer the interior too. I really dislike the big high dash on the Tig (reminds me of a ford focus!). Still wouldn't buy one though, why would you? - other than for the badge, as phaeton said.

I'm not sure what I think. I can see the tig in the dna, however I can also see a bit of Darth Vader and Boba Fett as well. I always find it hard to visualise the car when it is in these weird computerised, designerish formats. I reckon the prices will start at a reasonably well optioned 147.

Is the Q3 really made in Spain?

My personal opinion is that it doesn't really matter where the car is built, it's all about the quality control. That said, German built definitely reassures people of quality. That's my two cents please feel free to disagree.

Personally I'm not phased by the Q3. I'd love to own one, but there are plenty of cars that I'd pick before it. Like my Tig that I can't wait to arrive!!!!
