  • Daytime Headlights

In the Tigs manual it states you can activate daytime headlights, i assume similar to the golf, however i've followed the directions and have had no luck.

    Anyone else have any success?

not on my11 but std on my12 - yet to be released downunder.

as for car manuals, they are likely to be common print (not just for aust market) meaning they contain instructions on features there are not common for tiguans exported to particular regions of the world. (read as : marketing savings on print)

LEDs and tail lights on my12 do look very cool.

AFAIK, the manual method can only be done if you have non-xenon headlights. Doesn't work on cars with xenons (which require VCDS coding)!

Did you get a chime sound?

If not, then you didn't execute it properly.

Headlight switch needs to be set to '0' position and not on 'parks' or 'auto', before attempting.

Give that a go, if still doesn't work then must be done via VCDS also.

Haven't got the xenon's hence i assumed it should work.

Did everything you mentioned, headlight switch to '0' and i got the chime sound but still nothing.

Unfortunately it looks like you do need to do it via VCDS. This is the box to tick within module 9 (i.e. Bit 2):

NOTE: This will also activate your parkers as DRLs.

            Other VCDS tweaks

            Fogs only as DRL
NOTE: Need to manually change type in the second last digit from '0' to '1' in the Binary code, as Bit 1 within Byte 14 is not available or visible.

NOTE: This will also activate your parkers as DRLs.

            Fogs as cornering lights
NOTE: Need to tick box at Bit 7

Enabling beep sound when locking doors with remote
NOTE: Need to have purchased factory alarm

NOTE: You can also enable beep sound when unlocking doors @ Bit 4.
But it's a pointless function IMO, since you tend not to forget to unlock the car.

That's a bummer, but thanks for the screen shots on how to activate them.

While we are on the topic of VCDS, any idea if you can activate the dipping passenger exterior mirror for reversing via VCDS? i find it a great feature on the Golf.

                Thanks for posting this aussietig.

Do you know if Parkers as DRL is doable via VCDS?

I am able to activate the option on VCDS so that it appears within the convenience menu of the MFD as a selectable item (as per handbook).

However, it hasn't worked on my car!

My searching online to date suggests you don't need seat memory for it to work, but maybe the correct passenger door module.

To which I said "fcuk that". Too much trouble!

Unlike the Mk5 Golf GTI I use to drive, the reverse lights on the Tig are bright enough to reveal the kerb at night time and on both sides.

Also having 19" wheels with a 45 profile helps avoid kerb rash.

Theoretically can't see why not! Haven't tried it myself.

But if you go back to my original post:

I should clarify that Fogs Only as DRL actually also includes the Parkers as well.

Now remember, I manually typed in the second last digit a '1' instead of '0' (which is equivalent to ticking the box for Bit 1, if there was one).
As Bit 0 is the last digit in the Binary code when reading it from right to left.

In other words, Bit 1 within Byte 14 is what activates Fogs & Parkers Only as DRL.

Logic would suggest that you leave that on, but then somehow disable the fogs.

From memory (sorry no pics), Byte 15 has some options to operate DRL via separate lights.

I would suggest that that's the area where you start playing around in, by ticking or unticking within that Byte, to try and subsequently take out the fogs.

Cause if you haven't noticed already, the list of options (Bytes & Bits) within Module 9 is quite impressive, in terms of being right across the screen and off the page. Definitely puts Johnny Holmes in his place!

                    Anyhow see how that goes!

                    Worse case scenario
Unticking Bit 0 and manually typing in '1' at Bit 1 via the Binary code (within Byte 14) will get you your Parkers as DRL Only!

But that's because you've just downgraded your Tig with no fogs installed.

NOTE: Within Byte 14, there are more Bits hidden apart from Bit 1 that possibly may be ticked (as indicated by the zeros (0) in the Binary code). But not sure what they're there for.

I still might give it a go, try and activate as much stuff as i can while i get access to VCDS.

Can you remember where you go to activate the mirrors?

Off the top of my head, it's in the earlier Bytes within Module 9.

Worse case, just scour through every Byte (i.e. all 30 of the them) within Module 9.

You won't miss it cause there's definitely a tick box for it and appropriately labelled!

Maybe able to confirm for sure when I get home tonight, if Mrs allows me to come out and play.

If it does work for you, then please jot down or screen capture your long coding to share.

Also thinking i may invest in a cable myself as long as it's compatible with both the Tig and the Golf.

aussietig, is the cable expensive and where do you get the software from? Cheers

The cable is compatible and portable with all VAG vehicles.

Just the basic Micro-CAN one will do the job for car owners: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/Micro-CAN.html

But do the right thing and buy an original one from here: http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCuCAN.html.

Software is free from the website and also entitles you to post questions online & support on coding problems with their technicians/experts!

There are rips off available on eBay which may or may not work with the original Ross-Tech software (depending if they are good quality rip-offs or outright fakes).
