  • Kangaroo wipes out my tiguan!

Driving home the other morning, and next thing I've been pushed sideways off the road.

Get out of the car and have been hit by a bloody big kangaroo.

Took out the drivers door and the passenger door.......absolute mess.

    Will post a picture shortly.

    NOT HAPPY JAN!

On a good note, all doors still open perfectly, and I'm ok other than a bit of whiplash.

    roo got away.

        Ouch!

Sorry to hear and see Phil.

Dents can be pushed back out, but unfortunately I can see scratches to the paintwork and on both doors.

Not cheap to respray, as will need to blend in with existing panels.

If it's any consolation, the wheels look okay and survived the ordeal!

          Sorry to see this.
This happened recently to a friend of mine on his new diesel Focus. He bought it whilst in QLD and the first time he drove it, was back home to Sydney. A Kangaroo ran into the side of him, just like your damage here (except there is more damage on the rear door since my friend was doing about 100km/h when the kangaroo hit him).

Shortly after, he went to Singapore for work (unexpectedly) and left he car with me. I had to arrange the repair etc.

This won't just be a respray...
They'll likely remove the doors and "reskin them" - which is basically replacing the exterior body panels of the doors. This is because there are just too many different ripples etc in the damage, so it's cleaner for them to reskin them.
Once they are done, they'll put the doors back on the car and then respray that entire side of the car. Since it's metallic and there is less chance of seeing the differences between the original and new paint if they do the entire side.

If you go to a good repairer and they "hang" the doors properly so the gaps look even around each edge, it should look good as new once done.

Thanks for the info Dermot. I agree, if the door skins can't be easily replaced, then they'll need to replace the entire door!
Either way, it's definitely an insurance job.

sorry to hear about the damage to your car, especially disappointing when its a new car. main thing is you are OK.

No doubt the roo wished it didn't happen too, he's got no parts that are easily replaced or a repairer - he'll probably lose his life. For perspective only.

Well the good news is I get brand new doors. They strip out all the bits they can reuse, and away they go. Apparently, tiguans are not reskinned......that's nice to know.

No structural damage at all, which is good, so just a good paint job required and all will be well again.

Given it's three years old already, might be a good idea to think about an update when the new shape arrives. I like the led running lights......

Still, it's all money, might keep the old girl.....it's only done 35,000 k's

One good thing, the car doors still operate perfectly, they still clunk closed the same and feel as solid as a rock and still no wind noise or change in driving at all......god they build bloody good cars.

Yep. This was the case with my mate's encounter with a kangaroo.

People who are concerned about the Kangaroo need to realise that the Kangaroo jumped into the SIDE of the car - not the front. So from the Kangaroo's standpoint, whilst it would be dazed and confused (i.e. it's jumping along and and all of a sudden it hits something that wasn't there 0.1 of a second ago) it is no different to them jumping into a tree, or a wall etc. It isn't enough to badly hurt them...

Corey my comment was simply for perspective. However having hit a mob of kangaroos at a lesser speed on a dirt road I was amazed at how badly hurt all roos were when I got out and checked. I was coming round a corner and they were coming down the inside bank, by the time we saw each other they and me had no where to go. I collected 3, and at least two of those hit the side of the car and 'went on'. I too would have thought they were not too badly injured. Not so, all 3 had badly brocken legs which includes the two that hit the side of the car. Dont ask me how. With brocken legs they had no future in the bush and I put them down.

theres no way on earth those dents could be pushed out.

new doors would be around 4-500 from vw or you could try your luck at a wreckers and get a pair in silver! much better option as silver is a bi**h to colour match..

                          goodluck!
