  • High pitch noise from Tig 147 engine bay

I have a new 147 Tig, after car has been warmed (say 20 minute run) up i get a high pitched (screaming) noise from under the bonnet, more noticable when idling, Sounds like an old kettle with a whistle on top starting to boil.
I can post a video from iphone, if i can work out how to.
Any one else came accross this.

Is it definetly coming form under the bonnet? While the cars idling get out of the drivers seat and standing beside the car put your head into the driver's footwell and see if you can hear it, then touch your brake peddle - with your hand obviously and see if it changes/stops. I've had 3 brake boosters and the only way I knew there was a problem was because I could hear a whistling noise. At the end of the day though, it's brand new, so take it back to your dealer and get them to sort it for you.

not a common fault but have seen a few water pumps making excessive noise they are belt driven, gearbox side of the engine. very hard to diagnose due to all the other stuff making noises down that area.

I have just hit 1000kms on a 127tsi tig and has the same problem, really annoying high pitched whistle at idle - its sending me insane; any news on what the problem was??

          Hey go1better,

It is probably just the car squealing with delight when you took it for a thrash over the mountain racetrack at Bathurst!!
          "yippee...I'm free"

          Sorry, couldnt help it!

Seriously...it does sound like the issues others have had with the brake booster. Just keep taking it back to the dealer until you are happy.

Chances are that it is the water pump, I had the exact same problem.
Unfortunetly my replacement pump developed the same problem (though not as bad), so back to the dealer I went!
On pump number 3 now and all has been fine ever since.
When I went back the second time I was told that it is a known issue - there is a hotline fix or something like that - it has something to do with the tollerance of the impellar within the pump not quite being right when they were manufactured.
I was told to keep driving a per normal as it won't hurt the car and they booked me in to get the pump replaced. It was just bloody annoying having that high pitched squeal in the background until it was fixed!
