  • detailed quirks on a current model Tiguan

    VW members,

Thought I would share these quirks I noticed driving my2011 around for the past 3 months. it was news to me since I do not read car manuals...

    1. when S mode engaged, (DSG gearbox) the final speed = 6. UNLESS you flick the cruise control on active and set it ON.
active cruise control will shift DSG into a final 7th gear.

    2. front screen wipers do not work if the bonnet is popped (not lifted open) - logical.

    Here is a Question to the wider Tiguan community on here;

    - has anybody cracked a way to make DVD movie working on RNS510 whilst car is in motion (above5kms)
    please share the step.
youtube search on this topic and steps (tried) do not work.

AFAIK, you have to buy an additional module for that.

But you run the risk of getting pulled over if it's on whilst driving.

This does not work on the newer firmwares... If your running current HW/SW you need the physical module.

I also noticed that reverse camera shows no assist lines if the boot is slightly open as well. Even the boot seems to be closed, when it is not fully closed. It shows no mode1 or 2 lines.

You can order a patch wiring that you install in line with the connector at the back of your unit (apparently not reliable) or it can be reprogrammed. I'm looking to get diagnostic program (not cheap) for the VW audio units to allow this and more. I should have it by the end of June.

My worst quirk I've found on my 2011 Tig is the seat belt must be fastened before the hand break will disengage. Very annoy when I come home have to open the gate then dive 10m into the car port, I always forget and wonder wtf is going on... the remember... 'seat belt'.

Did you turn on "Hold" button? I'm quite sure I can drive off without the seat belt. Though, ours is 2010.

You only have to put your foot on the footbrake and then the handbrake will release using your "hand", ie it acts like an old style handbrake. Reason is simple, so the car wont run away if the driver isn't in it and a child or pet or whatever presses the handbrake switch !! I do this quite regularly when going from gate to gate on our block.

                    Cheers

Just tried now when I got home, putting it in 'hold' then opening the drivers door puts the main park break on, main park break won't disengate until the seat belt clips in.

                        @ bsdnet

can you confirm if you are actually leaving a car in drive (engaged) or are we discussing a manual here ?

if auto, I suspect the only logical reason for break not disengaging w/o belt in would be due to gear engaged.

It's not in gear when I jump out of the vehicle, DSG gearbox.

My sequence: (engine running) Place gear into park 'P', pull the hand break control, exit vehicle, open gate, enter vehicle, gear into 'D', press accelerator. What happens is the engine just revs and the vehicle won't budge, I can sit there just reving the thing as much as I like and the hand break won't disengage. As soon as the seat belt is fastened I can press the accelerator and the hand break will disengage. Kinda annoying.

Tried it today same sequence above but press 'hold' instead of pulling the hand break control, as soon as the door opened the park break engaged.

                          It's a MY11 build date week 2 2011.

I've said it once but I'll try again. If you want the handbrake to release with your seat belt OFF you simply have to do it manually, same as any other car with a manual handbrake. Just put your foot on the foot brake and press the handbrake switch down, voila, off you go. It's designed this way (with the footbrake/seatbelt interlock so the car won't run away if the driver is out of the seat and a child or pet or whatever stands on the handbrake switch. It's very sensible when you think about it.

                            Cheers

                              true NZtig

I personally wouldnt want for a handbrake (not hold fucntion) to dissengage on dpress of a accelerator. sorry bsdnet but you will need to use your hand to dissengage the handbrake.

hold function however works differently and does provide quick release (via acceleration) but in your case, as soon as the door opens, a handbrake is applied.
