  • Beige Leather - Good or Bad?

Ok, after much deliberation the wife has decided she definitely wants a Tiguan, especially as VW are having the drive away specials.

One of the options she wants is Leather. We would prefer Black but pretty much all we can find is vehicles with the Vienna Beige Leather. Granted it looks fantastic and classy new but how does it wear over time? We have 2 kids and i'm worried that within a few weeks the interior will look filthy. I'm happy to clean and look after it but does it stain easily?

Anyone else have the beige interior and can give their opinions please?

Keep it clean and treated and it should be fine.

Just be aware that if you wear denim it will leach die off into the leather which is noticeable with the beige so you will wnat to clean and treat it more frequently.

I think that those who went for beige leather wouldn't do it second time. Black will always look good if maintained well. Just my opinion.

Dealer mentioned to me that he knew of two folk who had scratched the leather seats with buckles, kids shoes. Have to be careful I think.

we have two kids too but they are still in car seats, we found that our jeans are more a problem than the kids. That means try not to wear dark colour jeans and clean the leather often. Beige looks great, they do require more care. This is our third car in beige leather.. previous cars were both beemers with a slightly darker shade of beige, the beige in the Tiguan is very light.

We have two kids in car seats as well and they deal out the damage on our cloth seats, however they clean up really well. I don't know much about leather but I do remember making a pretty permanent mess of dad's Bora with beige leather and a beer when I was about 23...not that you will be drinking beer in your car. You are sensible.

From the comments above it seems to come down to one thing, how much are you prepared to get in and clean the leather?

Stay away from beige leather & interior in a car!! Our previous car was an E-Class with Beige leather & interior, looks absolutely fantastic brand new and 6 months after that.
It will get soiled and dirty easily, not just the leather mind you, the plastic part below the seat will also received black scuffed mark from your shoes, the carpet will shows a lot of dirt, etc. Jeans will turn the seats bluish and almost impposible to get rid off. It seems that VW uses a softer leather compare to Merc, I will imagine the dirt will accumulate much faster. I'm passionate about leather but I steer clear from beige leather, even my leather sofas & chair is now dark colour.

                You've been warned...choose wisely.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I also believe Black Leather with our circumstances is the only way to go.
We may have found some vehicles now that match what we want with the black leather so will keep you up to date with how we go.

IMHO beige leather looks classy and more upmarket than black, I prefer it in the Tiguan looks wise.

It is however a PITA to take good care of compared to the black leather. If you are willing to put in the time go for the beige, if you are concerned at all just go for the black. Either way I doubt you will be disappointed.

If one was to decide still on the Beige Leather, any suggestions on products and care regime?

Hi Superviza and others, I have bought a silver leaf/beige 2011 and will pick up in two weeks. I drove a black one with the beige lether and was taken with the interior so went for that when the colour choice we wanted (silver leaf) was only available in it. In Qld you just shouldn't get a dark car ...period and by the same extension a light interior is good sense. However, I have 4 kids and had 2 Volvos with tan lether interiors (with better quality leather I think) and they do need more upkeep but it was still good looking after many years if you do the basics. It does seem to be more prone to drying out but that is only a personal comment and not a technical one. I have also driven a later Volvo with grey leather which still looks good after 10 years of service and an annual leather condition. The reason I insisted on leather for this car because of the comfort factor. I will be driving this car myself and maintaining the interior so I think I can keep the looks. I looked at it today at the dealers pre delivery and it really is a good looking combination with a light filled interior. I had the car leather conditioned, having accepted the blarney of the after market people, from looking here I should have picked up the car cleaning gear myself but it does have a pretty good warranty, so I will be using it if I have any problems. So, if you are a sole driver in sunny Qld go for it, if you are down south in a cooler climate or have young kids or no maintenance regime go for the grey leather. There are some good posts here on car cleaning and care, look at the stickies at the start of the Tiguan forum.

I agree, I think the light coloured interior looks great. I like the look of the new light coloured cloth seats too, just hope that you can get the interior to match.
