  • RNS 510 Install

    Hi Guys,

I've tried searching for this but couldn't really find much.....

I'm just looking for people who have installed this unit into their Tiguans themselves.

Where abouts did you put the GPS antenna?

I've just installed mine, and the only metal place I could find to stick the antenna was to the left of the centre console, near the glove box.

Now when I turn it on, it doesn't appear to be getting any signal (I can't navigate, and I can't see the map). The maps appear to be loaded correctly as I can search for an address, I just can't create a route to my destination.

My other issue is that when I turn the car off, it sounds like the fan stays on - however from what I've read this is normal behaviour - so I will see if it turns off in the next 15-20 minutes!

    Thanks in advance!

Mine sits on the top of the unit inside the dash.
Basically if you look at the top of the RNS510 it sits in the top right hand corner.
It may need an almost direct view up through the windscreen to get a strong signal so place it as far towards the back of the top of the unit as you can.

The fan will stay on in the GPS unit to cool it down after use.
The engine cooling fans will also stay on if you have given the car a bootfull and it isn't cooled down enough before you turn the car off.

Some answers with pics can be found a couple of threads down called "New Tiguan 125TSI DSG".

Some bastard hijacked that thread and turned it into RNS510 thread.

grrr.... I replied but it appears to have been lost!

Thanks for the quick response team_v

I swapped my gps antenna to where you suggested, and it after driving around for 5 minutes or so it finally picked up a signal (I think it was confused from being turned on for the first time so far from Lithuania.

One other question - do you know if it is possible to show your current speed via the GPS? I could only find stuff like elevation and what not, but nothing about how fast I was going.

Other than the minor satellite issue I'm very happy with the end result

And thanks aussietig - I'll have a look for that thread to make sure I haven't missed anything else!

I haven't been able to get the gps speed on the RNS510. But when I fitted the Kufatec bluetooth it it gives the gps speed ( AT least I think that's where it comes from because it agrees with the speed reported by a portable GPS) in th extra e-mfa display it shows in the MFD in the instrument panel ( turbo boost, oil temp, sytem voltage, digital fuel readout etc)

                Hi all
For future reference the magnet in the GPS unit is only a mounting option and does not in anyway affect function, so long as you can wedge or mount it from moving in a plane parallel to the ground it will function the same.

Weather you get the C or the D the Maps are the same and LCD screen is not that much different to the LED both work very well in bright sunlight.
