Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bodywork Repairers

I've just picked my Tiguan up from AAMI following a crash repair.

I'm absolutely disgusted with the quality of the repair that has been carried out. In addition to the ariel being broken on return, two out of the four wheel arches on the tig now have cracks in, and another is now ill fitting. It looks like they didn't know how to remove them as I am sure they was not cracked following the accident.

My question is, do VW have approved crash repairers, or are there any that come highly recommended in either Sydney or the Central Coast region?

I'm dead set against the car going back to the same repairer as they seem unable to simply unscrew a car ariel having yanked it out the socket to get these issues fixed.

Welcome to the world of AAMI cheap insurance. AAMI and several other insurers have repairers quote online for the repair job. The cheapest gets the job. They do have a lifetime guarantee on the quality of the repair.
This whole system of quoting by multiple repairers was why I left AAMI several years ago.

I like to have choice of repairer in my contract. We are with GIO and it is peace of mind. When our Porsche was crashed into by an idiot P plater causing $27,000 worth of damage, I just nominated who I wanted to do the repair. LSR at Artarmon.
Now a guy has also hit the TIG (approx $2500 to repair).

To answer your question about about approved repairer Callaghan Collision repair centre in Taren Point do excellent work & are VW & Subaru recommended repairers.

I wonder if you complain about the poor repair quality of the repair, whether they send it back to the original repairer?

prior to owning the GTi i had a 2006 Subaru Forrester XT. car was 6 months old when we had a massive hail storm and every panel on the car was damaged. aami were fantastic. they set up in a disused warehouse, you drove in, the car was assessed on the spot and either sent to an area for paintless dent removal or you were given paperwork with the contact details of 3 repairers. Gerrards here in Newcastle got the job and they did an outstanding job, i'm not kidding the car came back better than new, the quality of the paintwork, the panel fit and the pride they took in doing the job were outstanding.
maybe i was lucky but i remain insured with aami.

$27,000 worth of damage to your Porsche is quite substantial, and it can put a significant dent in your car's resale value. Could you nominate to have the entire car replaced with a new one?

My insurance policy with Mercedes-Benz gives me this option. A friend of mine had a similar policy. He had the misfortune of having a red-light-runner smashing into his W168 A-Class, and he got a W169 A-Class as a replacement after filing his claim.

Don't underestimate the price of the part itself. Recently I had a small accident to my C-Class, had to replace front bumper assembly, grille and Headlights (broken bracket). The part alone cost $8k+.
