I didn't think they had one. Have you checked your manual?

I'm pretty sure the only way to check is to remove the top up plug on the side of the tranny. You fill it through the plug hole until the fluid starts to seep out the hole and this lets you know you're at the right level. Not really something you can do without a hoist and the proper tools though I would have though?

Umm........................... the dealer is an idiot! I know for a fact that the Haldex fluid needs to be changed (can't remember at what interval 100k maybe?) and I'm sure a tranny fluid change would also be on the schedule somewhere.

NA maintenance schedule above. Note; tranny fluid and Haldex fluid change every 40k miles. DO NOT go back to that dealer.

Haldex oil is replaced at 60,000klms.

DSG (where fitted) oil is replaced every 60,000klms. The filter is not deemed to to require replacing due it's location. I'm sure if you payed an extra hour's labour, and arranged for the correct filter (not the same as the other DSG filter), you can have it replaced.

All others are fill for life.

Those with non-DSG autos can check their oil by removing the inspection plug in the bottom of the pan, whilst the car is idling in 'P'. If red fluid dribbles out, it's all good.

Please re-check your source on this?

I did a lot of research and kicked up quite a stink at my dealer when they didn't replace my Haldex oil at my 30,000km service. I have ELSAWin manuals for my Tig and they say the Haldex oil should be changed at 30,000km's, the service handbook in the glove box says it should be changed at the 30,000km service, and even the dealers checklist said it should be changed at the 30,000km service. In the end the dealer let me bring by Tig back in and as a gesture of "goodwill" they changed it "for free" (in spite of the fact that it was specifically itemised on my bill that they had changed the oil when they hadn't, so I can't see how it was free).

Anyway, sorry if this is going off topic - I cannot help with regards to the gearbox oil.

Haldex Generation II is every 30,000klms, with the filter changed at 60,000klms.

Haldex Generation IV, like in the Tiguan, requires an oil change only, every 60,000klms. An upcoming revision to the service schedule the dealerships use will reflect this.

                        All Tiguans have Haldex IV.

Remember, the service schedule vaguely outlined in the service book is very generalised to cover a broad range of models.

Well, I'm sorry but I have to ask. Would you change the Haldex oil, if it was your Tiguan? (I just asking you as a friend)

                          I definitely will in ours.

                            No

At 30,000klms, the oil that comes out is clean as a whistle. We've (us at dealership level) been advised that it's not necessary to replace it that often, and that at 60,000klms is the correct service interval for it. This goes back to new model training which was back in mid '08, from memory. The thing is, Haldex II-equipped VWs used a different oil, as well as having a filter that needed to be replaced at intervals. While the operating principals of Haldex II and IV are similar, they're based on different design principles in the way of life-span, and servicability.

As I mentioned in a previous post, this will be outlined in a new, revised service schedule, due out in time for the release of Amarok.

Hope this clarifies things a bit further.

At my recent 30k service they advised that the Haladex oil change interval had been changed to 60k. Fine by me. Don't mind deleting an expense for a 4WD system I didn't want in the first place.
