Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Left brake light stuck on, car beeping

It's been doing this for a few days, no idea what has causEd it.

When I switch The car off I turn off the lights, open the car door and it does the binging noise as if the lights are on.

Light switch is off, all inside light switches are off. Doors and boot shut.

Left brake light is stuck on so I gather that's why it's binging but I have no idea why it's stuck on or how to turn it off?

Any ideas or should I just take it to the dealer?

When you park the car with the indicator on, it will chime when you remove the ignition key to remind you it has set the park light (front paker, rear parker)
Solution: turn off the indicator before exiting car
TDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs
Service every 15,000, new fault code every 7,500km

I'm surprised the MFD didn't display "ID10T", all this time.

Certainly that would be the code that appears against that service item on the invoice, if you did take it into dealer to repair it.

Jokes aside, I think all VW dealers owe a duty of care to run through the basic operations of the keyfob, switches and convenience settings.

Naturally they don't and so this should be high on the checklist of owners, when picking up your new VAG vehicle.
That is, ensuring the dealer has given you this full run down.

Admittedly, this would easily take 15mins I reckon (if one was to do it properly) in order to make up for the fact that most owners will never read their manuals (ever).

In the Golfs, it's the side mirror indicator light that remains on if you ignore the chime and also lock the car.

Apparently an actual design feature, if the owner wants to warn and alert people to watch out for their side mirrors presumably in narrow streets at night time.

I see this happening on the police jetta all the time.
It is a wonder that thing ever has a working battery.

A simple but for a problem that is non-existent.

What 'idiot' decided that when someone had parked the car, turned it off then locked it but left the indicator stalk in the on position, the car should leave it's lights on?

If the car is switched off and locked, then the indicator isn't on anyway. So why do you need to warn me to turn off something which isn't on? And in the process, flatten the battery by giving the warning.

I wouldn't imagine that Europe blinker light thing would even make any difference. If you are going through a narrow area or parking spot, the car you hit will be on the side you aren't watching, therefore a light makes no difference because you wouldn't see it anyway.

It's PARKING LIGHTS !! And you can decide which side to have them on by using the indicator to tell the Tig what you want. The whole idea is that 2 lights on one side WON'T flatten your battery. It's actually quite clever for those who don't routinely exit their car with the indicators still going !! Frankly I don't think the "idiot" as you put it, is the designer !!

Hmm, someone needs to read the owner's manual and that's from front to back.

If you need to read the manual from front to back before you drive a car, then the manufacturer has failed miserably.
No wonder BMW I-drive controls attracted so much criticism.
All controls should be logically placed and intuitive.

Hmm, not everyone is the same, I don't mean it as an offense, simply, some people excell in something else than controlling the car 100% from the day one.

Well I don't see the point. Never needed it in the past, don't need it now, never seen it ever used.

I don't read manuals. If you can use it fine without a manual, then it's well designed. Glad to see the nerds on here out in force, if you weren't, I'd still be scratching my head lol.

Most european cars have this facility - usually it's on the light stalk/switch though. VW just like to be a bit 'smarter' - and hopefully easier to use - plus gives you the option to select either right or left side.
