Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Picking up the Tig in on Friday, things to check...

The wait is finally over, received a call from a nice lady at VW informing me that car is ready to be picked up next week. I opted for Friday after work so I can have a nice playtime with the Tig on the weekend.

Quick question, is there anything in particular that need to be checked when I'm picking up the car?

Go over the car to make sure all the electronics work (windows, lights boot hatch etc) and that there is no visual marks on the car.
Make sure all the options you paid for are in the car.
See if you can get the map disk if you got the RNS510.

Also see if there are any options that you need vagcom'd like the windows open/close on key hold and get these done before you pick it up.

      MOST IMPORTANT!
Make sure you get the whel alignment checked before you drive it off.

Take someone with you if you can, so he/she can check the car in out, since you will be finishing the paper work with the dealer and then will be explaining to you all the features off the car.

Check that both keys are working.

Check body panels and paint outside the showroom.
Any chips and/or scratches to clearcoat not easily visible inside.

I'm sure there is a very comprehensive checklist one here somewhere, I used it when we picked up our tiguan and it was very thorough. Make sure you get a full tank of petrol too, none of this 1/3 full nonsense that we endured.

Speaking from experience I would say to ensure your salesperson gives you a comprehensive run through of all key functions of the vehicle. It wasn't until after I got my Tig that I found this forum and that was because I was tearing my hair out trying to learn about the items that I couldn't work out and/or were'nt explained properly. (I'm sorry the Owners Manual / Guide book is just not user friendly enough)....

[e.g. factory blue tooth voice activation - salesperson didn't know how to operate & couldn't explain full functionality so I spent a week blundering through set up]

I agree that you really need to ensure that the wheel alignment is perfect.

Also, check to see what tyres are fitted to your individual vehicle. I saw that mine had the cheap Hankooks on it, but I wanted the better quality Pirellis, so I had the dealer swap the wheels and tyres from another new vehicle in stock.

Also, make sure the detailing has been done properly. When I picked mine up, the turkeys that did the polishing had gone all over the edges of the door trims etc and rubber mouldings causing a smearing of white residue that was impossible to get off for quite some time. So def check it outside in the natural light.

Other than that, if you have not yet driven your particular vehicle, take it for a test drive around the block before handing over the cheque.

And ...ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS, no matter how silly they may seem.
