Why can't I find any prices like this?
I'm trying to be flexible, by adding another acceptable colour (black and white) and being open to all models.
Why oh why is it so hard to buy a car at an honest price? Any recommendations for specific dealers that you guys have used?

In our experience you will always do better buying 'off the floor' as dealers are more motivated to move stock and timing can be important. Eg on a sat afternoon at the end of the month, or at the end of a period important for the dealer, they may be very willing to do a great deal to move inventory. When we bought ours, after trying for ages got no where with the dealer up here and b/w the dealer here and perhaps what the dealer who had the cars was telling them, we got fed b...****. So called the dealer who had the car we wanted and worked out a great deal that Sat arvo over the ph - $35,500 drive away (equivalent, we had to drive from Melb up to NSW to reg) for a blue manual tsi with offroad, park assist, towbar, and mats. The contrast b/w dealing with the dealer up here who didn't have what we wanted in stock, versus dealing with a motivated dealer who did have was just night and day. I think the sat arvo timing was great as well. Anyway our experience if it helps. good luck.

By the way we started out looking for a TDI, but having bought the TSI, have absolutely had no regrets. It was great stock but with the APR upgrade its hands down the best engine I've ever had, powerful, economical (if driven so) and with heaps of low down grunt a great towing vehicle and very relaxing to drive (ie as no need to change gears much) - there is always torque on tap.

Great thoughts, jim. I had hoped the last week of 2010 might have meant some additional motivation from the sales guys, but clearly they were too busy partying already... I have found 3 options now, so if you get the chance please visit my other thread and give me your valued opinion?

I hate to feel like a fool in shopping for a car, so am particularly appreciative of all the expert help and advice I have received. I'll repay the favour in beer anytime.

I have ordered a car, and it seems to be all above board. Details on other thread.
          Thanks for your help, mate(s).

Heyy you live in my old suburb! It's irrelevant but damn I miss it

Anyways on topic; dad (stupidly) paid a flat $50k for our white, auto 125 with park assist, 18's, satnav, tint and Bluetooth (it came with fog lamps but the dealer didn't even know about it).

Don't waste your time with the "darkest" legal tint from VW. Three of my friends have it as well as my dad's Tig and it's rubbish, it's not dark at all. I had aftermarket tint on my Jetta and it's pitch black and apparently legal
