Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Delivery Delays

When I booked my Tiguan that was already on the ship to Australia, Chatswood Classic Cars stated an estimated delivery date of 20 November 2010 on the sale contract.

It's now 10 December 2010, and still no sight of the car. May only be able to do the handover next Saturday, 18 December 2010, almost a whole month after the estimated delivery date. And I will have to cancel my pre-planned holidays starting from 18 December 2010 and incur penalties, but ruined holiday plans is not something you can put a price on. The sales manager declined to thrown in some freebies as a gesture of goodwill, citing that they're selling the vehicle to me at a loss (but those of you who got better specced 147TSIs at lower prices will know better).

Needless to say, I'm not impressed with the way things are turning out.

Speak to the dealer principle and see what they can do.
I am sure they will be able to get the car ready earlier if it is already here.

Otherwise you could just go on holidays and pick the car up when you return?

They said the car arrived today, and they have sent it to the service centre for final works like sat nav installation and detailing. Since the service centre closes on weekends, the earliest time for handover is in the morning of Thursday, 16 December 2010, when I'll be extremely busy from morning till night meeting deadlines before going off on my leave.

In the meantime, I'll be stuck without a car from this weekend onwards, and getting to work will be a pain. A later handover after my vacation may not be possible due to a clause in the sale contract requiring handover within a certain period.

I hope the delay is not a result of panel beating works for damage incurred during transit.

If the RNS/detailing is holding up the car you could ask them to just give you the car and get the rns510 installed later etc.

They are probably just delaying as they have a lot of Golf R's due in and want to get them out as they are pricier and the people have been waiting for 4-5 months.

Did you speak to the dealer principle?

Any idea how I can get in touch with the dealer principal for Inchcape / Chatswood Classic Cars?

I don't know sorry, maybe try calling and asking for the contact details.
Otherwise see if they have a website (Most dealerships have that now)

This is the best person to talk to if you have any issues.
Make sure you state that you were advised of the November delivery dat eand that you are now being put in a situation where you have to sacrifice something to get the car they promised you.

                Team_v,

Thank you for the valuable advice.

I couldn't find the dealer principal's contact number, but I did lodge my complaint on their website. We'll see if they'll revert with a phone call, but I'm not holding my breathe.

                    Quick update:

Got a call from the dealership after I've submitted my complaint to the dealer principal's website. That was quick! A refund of my deposit was offered as a solution, but hopefully it won't go down to this. Hope to get an amicable solution soon.

                      They're just being a smart@$$ now!

They're definitely riding on the fact that you won't pull out of the deal, after waiting this long already for it.

I think they've got you there ... and most other people in the same boat! So you have to cop it on the chin!

However, I would be at least pushing them for a courtesy car based on the fact that you've relied on their advice of delivery time and as a consequence, no longer have a car to drive.

I'm actually very very tempted to get my refund. My wife was more keen on a Mercedes B200 that's available immediately, and the deal offered by Morrison for a well-specced model costs less than the Tig I booked, with 3 years of free servicing thrown in as a bonus. And with a new Merc parked at home, I can always wait a little for the facelifted Tig to arrive on our shores.

But Chatswood Classic Cars agreed to lend me a courtesy car for a few days. Not a Tig, but a Golf TDI ain't too shabby. That solves the problem of being car-less for the next few days. But the handover delay also ruins my other plans, and that's not resolved yet.

The B200 (now in run-out) offers very good value for a similar package at the same price as a Tiguan. Self Park, fog lights, AMG Wheels all included. Continuously variable transmission. Better Resale. Cheaper service.
TDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs
Service every 15,000, new fault code every 7,500km
