  • MDI for MY11 Tiguan

Hello all, I'm after some confirmation if anyone can help.

We picked up our MY11 Tiguan Pepper Grey 125TSI Friday afternoon and just love it.

When ordering it I requested factory fit MDI, when we picked it up the MDI is in the glove box. While the salesman was in the car I went looking for it in the center console and could not find it. He advised in the MY11 it is coming in the glovebox.

Can people in the know advise if this is the case? While I am OK with it in the glovebox if in fact it is a dealer fit than he should have come clean and not lied.

Also should the 12volt input have a plastic plug in it (life a cigarette lighter but fake)? Ours is just left open and once again I was told this is how they come.

    Thanks

I know that with the golf, Factory fitted is in the glovebox.

Tiguan is probably the same by the sounds of it.

No 'plastic plug' covering the 12V socket in the console in my MY10. The one in the boot & the one behind the centre console both have covers, though. Clark Rubber would probably have something for a few dollars if you wanted a cover.

Congrats, welcome to the pepper grey 125TSI club... I've got the MDI from the factory, It's in the glovebox and should have an USB connection cable attached.
          Hope this helps.

I have a mate who has a R36 and he has the plug so I thought I would check.

It's a good car me and my partner loves it. Fuel economy is good, around about 8ltr per 100kms for me for highway and driving around town combined.

Ive just purchased a tiguan and found that dealers are really funny about being clear regarding factory or dealer fitted accessories. I was unfortunate to get mine in the glove box as it was dealer fitted (and double the price) whilst a friend of mine got factory fitted and its in the arm rest.

Also found that dealer tried to flog me bluetooth option, which I found was going to be dealer fitted (at again ~$200 more expensive) and it had less features, only answered or pick up.. no phonebook support or bluetooth audio stream features.

I'll be investigating having my mdi moved as being in the glove box is a pain.

                  Cheers,
                  Max

Just curious... how much were you quoted for the dealer fitted MDI?

On my sale contract, MDI is listed as a Volkswagen fitted option costing $245.45.

Would've costed you half that for the cable via UK dealership online (including postage).

I'm telling you guys ... get your VW spare parts overseas!

PITA Re-post: due to the loss of 6 days worth of threads (which feels more like 6 years)

Now if you want instant access to ipod playlist, albums, artists & etc.

But more importantly, faster access to your music than say via SD card or external HDD via the USB MDI cable, then get yourself a genuine iPod MDI cable:

                          Volkswagen MEDIA IN - 000051446C

Will cost you £16.66 + £10.00 shipping (which is approx. half what it costs from Aust. dealer) and an ETA of 10 working days.

NOTE: This online VW dealer (in the UK) normally does not accept international orders. But you just need to email them first so that they will turn off the charging of VAT (equivalent of our GST) and allow you to put in an Australian postal address.

As mentioned in my previous thread, buying genuine VW spare parts online (especially UK) is the way to go at the moment since:
                          - UK dealer prices are cheaper;
                          - our exchange rate is good; and
                          - no 17.5% VAT (soon to be 20%)

However, the only thing to watch and weigh up is UK shipping costs.

But definitely recommend this route for small or lightweight items (such as a MDI cable).

If you know the name of the thread you can find it in the Google cache, just search for it. Than you can copy the text from the posts to your new post in our forum. I retrieved that way one of my lost thread.
