  • Anybody applied underbody sealant offer by the dealer (or by themself)?

    Hi Guys,

Just purchased 125TSI MY11 Tig in pepper grey (love the new grey) with leather, Bi-Xenon, comfort and fogs. I'm expecting delivery early next year. Quick question, has anybody purchase the underbody sealant offer by the dealer? How effective is it eliminating road noise? I've test driven Tiguan that they had in the yard and the cabin does a good job suppressing outside noise but if this stuff can improve the noise level, i will definitely consider it.

As an example, we bought a brand new 3 series BMW back in 1999, it had this rubbery goey (don't know how to describe it) stuff inside the wheel arches and i suspect under the car as well. The cabin was remarkably quiet (even with low profile 45 tyres), all you can hear is the sweet inline six. It's much more quieter than my current car, which is a current model C class. Either BMW pay more attention to the noise level or the underbody stuff actually works.

Anyone with more experience with this stuff please chime in, i'd like to know your thoughts.

    Thanks in advance.

I would make sure the sealant does not void the Volkswagen 12 year anti corrosion warranty. Some Anti rust applications put on by some dealers have been known to void these warranties.

I wouldn't waste money on that. I doubt that it would make any difference to noise level inside the car. As PhillipVWdealer said it could void the warranty.

The stock 125TSI is quiet enough already, you can barely tell the car is on or running.
        I wouldn't bother with it.
