  • Downpipe/Exhaust 2.0 TSi

    Hi guys,

APR AU was able to get that downpipe nailed? How about exhaust?

  • #2
They should be able to do an exhaust system but the cost for minimal benefit is prohibiting for me.
Apparently it will only provide an extra 3-4kw at the engine so that is about 1-2kw at the wheels from memory.

I have the downpipe on my car at the moment and with the intake and retune it's a noticable step up from Stage 1.
APR have my oem pipe and i believe are working on a mass production version.

Downpipe is currently being manufactured - thanks to team-v for a loan of his original - there are a couple of variations on the stock system, so we are accommodating a version that will fit all models!

The prototype had to be re-modelled to suit my MY10.5 Tiguan as they added an extra O2 sensor apparently.

Can't wait to see some more Stage 2 Tig's rolling around.

Can you just whack a K&N panel filter in the stock box rather than install a CAI.

            intake/downpipe/S3 k04/APR software

Is that all i need to get 240kw?

I gather the S3 K04 is a straight forward bolt-on to the Tiguan as it is with the A3 engine?

I was mulling over stage 2 but if it's really that simple i might just whack a k04 on and be done with it.

You can just put a panel filter into the stock airbox but the whole system is very poor for ram-air flow.
I have some shots of the stock and APR intakes in my thread (in signature), essentially the stock box has an open back on it which allows hot air to get in.
It also has about 2 times the amount of piping which i believe is to restrict dirt/leaves etc being stuck in the airbox.

You are the same guy who posted on Vortex?

Hopefully we can get Guy to post up a list of things that are required fora Stage 3 Tiguan.

Yeah that’s me, I’m trying anywhere for some input.

I would put the k04 on the A3 but as it’s FWD with no LSD there’s not much point.

I figure 240kw from a Tiguan sounds like fun. Although I do 40,000km/yr so I hope it won’t blow up!

From what I've read a KO4 upgrade on a Tiguan is very hard to do and you don't get much gain. General concensus seems to be a GT28RS is a much better option for about the same dough.

Hey Pullstarter - just curious as to where you read that info on K04 on a Tiguan..? Sounds interesting!

Why is it difficult to do on a Tig, compared with say a Golf with the same (almost) TSI engine? and if they make significant gains on the Golf TSI, why not on the Tiguan?

                    Cheers!

That doesn't make sense to me?

As krracing said we all have the same tsi engine with the same k03 as the gti. If you whack on a k04 you can run the same boost and get the same power as the gti.

Where are these 'general consensus' people who have all gone stage 3 on Tiguan's? I'm struggling to find anyone that has anything other than a chip. I only know of Team V and some other bloke o/s who have stage 2. I'd love to hear from stage 3 Tiguan owners, if they exist.

The K04 turbo does not bolt onto the Tiguan TSI engine, it needs extensive machining to make it fit.

The power output is OK if you do it, but not really a patch on what the stage 3 setup is.

I suppose you will spend considerable money for half a job, why not spend more & put 285kw & 430nm in it! My own GTI with the stage 3 is absolutely awesome & perfect for every day!

Both would realistically require a clutch upgrade for longevity -especially with the AWD traction.

Only my opinion, but I know APR have tested the K04 & stage 3 back to back on the same engine & came to the same conclusion.

I had heard that it wasn't a simple bolt on solution and you have clarified that for us.

Would the GT28RS be a suitable upgrade if someone was to go Stage 3?

From what i have seen the K04 GTI cars are doing just fine in the power department - 240kw or so but yes i realise the stage 3 kit is quicker. I'm not overly power hungry with cars, i ride a litre bike more than i drive a car so my own needs is just some 'peppiness' not godlike oomph

I am not sure i'd want to put 285kw through my own Tiguan. I want it to last 200,000km (about 4yrs) before any major work is required and i fear a stage 3 kit from the get go would kill it before that. My wife will divorce me if it blows up in 1-2yrs. I was thinking the K04 might be a compromise between stage 2 and 3.

Now it's been clarified that the S3 K04 isn't a bolt on i'll probably not bother going past stage 2, but who knows. I agree with you Guy buying a K04 kit isn't really worth it when the GT28 kit is a fraction more.

Hey Guy, since the tsi has a better fuel pump already does this mean when you fit the air intake and downpipe APR load on the stage 2+ software?

I have the Stage 2 software with only the intake and downpipe fitted.
This is most likely going to be enough for anyone's needs.
