What's wrong with people???? - Car keyed

So after months of waiting, I finally got my new Tiguan delivered! Been looking after it well but because it's our only car, we have no choice but to drive it to the shops, out to dinner etc. I've been careful to try and park it next to other expensive cars or further out as to avoid door opening dents.

On the weekend I was parked in a carpark and some f*ckhead keyed my car on the passenger side, a nice long scratch across the whole back passenger door and some of the front passenger door. They got it in nice and deep too, there is a definite groove. And this is one week after I spent an extra $400 get it detailed and a paint sealant put over the whole car.

I am still so bl**dy angry at the pointless things people do but the extreme rage I felt after it happened has died down. I was really upset because the car was less than a month old.

Anyway, now I'm not sure what to do. Should I fix it through insurance and pay the excess? I'm really scared someone will do it again and I'll be out of pocket again. It's a massive eyesore but I'm wondering whether there will be problems with rust, corrosion etc because the scratch has exposed the body. I'm assuming the cost to fix it will be more than my insurance excess.

We put all our hard earned money into the car and probably feel more precious about the car than we should!! Now I'm thinking we should have bought an old bomb.

Man that is rough.
I try to park as far away from other cars as i can but sometimes you can't and i always worry about stuff like that happening.

My old car got keyed and had all 4 tyres let down at the shopping centre we use.
Also got a few scratches from people's bag's/zips when they walked past it.


I would probably get insurance to pay for it to be prep'd, painted and sealed.

Know how you feel, a stupid cow slammed her shopping trolley into my door on my Tig when it was only a month or so old, It's a darn good think we don't carry weapons here !!!! My daughter has my old V6 Mazda Astina and some moron keyed that right up the passenger side too.

Unfortunately there's truck loads of these tossers out there and frankly I have no idea what can be done about them. Personally I'd get it fixed asap and just hope it doesn't happen again, and maybe (like me) look at fitting some side mouldings to at least stop any door/door damage.

Ah man, i feel for you. Some poeple really are just careless. It's just pure arrogance and perhaps jelousy.

I had an example the other week at the shops, it was a busy carpark and had no choice but to park next to another car (i usually find the quietest corner of the carpark) so proceeded to park my MK4 r32 there. Went to the coffee shop etc etc, was sitting there overlooking my car when a fairly elderly woman went to her car and without any care what so ever opened her passenger door and let it swing right into my drivers side mirror! In a sense, it was lucky it was only the mirror, but it still left a big scrape up the edge of it. I proceeded to try and calmly approach the woman and say "Excuse me, do you realise you just damaged my car with your door?", with her response "Oh it's only a car no use loosing sleep over it", trying to still remain calm I said "Well i'm sorry that you see it that way, but I take a lot of care and pride in my car, and I'd like to ask for your insurance details so i can have my mirror repainted", she then proclaimed that I should just "grow up" and "go away".

It's the attitude like this that really just ****s me off, and even more so when it's far more deliberate and harmful things such as your case when it was deliberately inflicted. You would love to catch them in the act, huh...

The elderly are pretty vicious around shopping centres.
I have seen an old lady reverse out of her spot into a new jeep, crunch pretty hard and then drive off.
got her plates and put a note in the jeep's windscreen but the old lady should have stopped and done that herself.

The further you park away from the shop door the more likely you are to get keyed or other things done to your car as less people are watching.

But less potential witnesses when you remove the tyre lever from your car and ....

I don't think parking further away makes you a bigger target, all my damage has been closer to the shops and the lazy pricks who key doors are not going to do it out in the open but rather with other cars around to conceal their gutless actions.

So far I have zero damage on the GTI, over 2 years and I've been trying hard to protect her and so far it's paid off. The worst I had was with a previous car to come back to find a b*$#% changing her babies nappy whilst her fat arse was banging her door into my rear door and she went straight into attack mode when I protested. End result was her insurance paid my insurance to respray the side of my car but she didn't give a stuff and would do it again because she knows the chances of her being caught are next to zero. No apology nothing.

It's always people that don't share the same enthusiasm for cars as we do.

My car got keyed just after 2 months of owning. Over the front bonnet. I was not happy! Luckily it was wasnt straight to the body.

Got a detailer to buff it out.

Still I can't believe people would willfully damge a car. Where is the satisfaction?? Go to your mates and say " I just keyed I car, Damn I feel cool"

Really sorry to hear about this as my car is about the same age. I got a stone chip on the weekend in the screen but that pales in comparison...

Get it fixed back to new through insurance...chances are it won't happen again. I expected my MINI to get keyed every time I parked it 'cause it looked pretty shiney most of the time and I always parked it a good distance from anyone, but it never did happen..You'd be unlucky for it to happen again...

I feel for you. I was with someone in a car when they hit someone else's car and attempted to drive off. I was furious, forced this person to pull over, get out and leave their details.

I agree some people need their heads kicked in sometimes and need to respect other peoples property.

Thanks everyone for your stories and support! It could have been worse, but I just hope whoever has done this (and all the other people who vandalise other people's property) get what's coming to them!!

Can anyone recommend a good repairer for the work in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne? I would rather choose my own repairer than go with the one the insurance company suggests.

I'm just not looking forward to the repair time that I will be carless!

I heard one about a guy who returned to his car to find it damaged, there was a note on the car which read
'sorry i hit your car, and because someone saw me I am leaving this note"
on a side note, jealous people who damage cars should be euthanised

I don't care what anyone says, but please bring back the cane! The amount of public and private property damages made by idiots with no respect indicates that something is wrong with our system.
