is the hatch meant to lift up when you unlock it from the remote?

nope, u still need to depress the release button and lift. It's a safety thing.

No.
It pops out slightly but you have to pull it to get it to open.
This is to stop you accidentally opening the hatch while driving i believe (same as the Mk5/6 golf)

There was a thread in the mk6 section recently about upgraded gas struts that will allow it to pop open all the way when you press the unlock button.

thanks.. thought it would be a safety thing. just used to our jetta boot opening up when you unlock it.
