Now that is what customer service is all about.

Well this problem just happened to me and, sure enough, it was a faulty pressure sensor causing the engine light to come on. Unfortunately, it took a week and half for the dealer to come to this conclusion. They replaced the glow plug control module and water pump first (which had me out of action for a week) and when the light came back on they finally decided to swap the sensor over.

Funnily enough, I had read this thread and so suspected all along that it was the sensor. I didn't say anything to the mechanic though as I didn't want to tell the guy how to do his job. I mean, it could have been anything of a thousand things wrong with the car and the last thing he wants is some clown like me giving an "expert" opinion right? Anyway, lesson learned and I'm still happy with the car and the dealer (Nth Coast Volkswagon)

MY09 TDI DSG Eos - the dreaded warning light has come on after 23,000Km - the engine is running faultlessly and as we only do trips of 100+ Km, a clogged DPF is unlikely and there is no underbody damage to the exhaust system to increase back pressure.

Exhaust pressure differential sensor is the USA-manufactured version 036 906 051A which other international reports on the Eos forum confirm these have internal circuit board soldering defect. See the following thread which includes some photographs:

EOS Exhaust pressure sensor exposed, 2007 tdi, 21k miles - VW Eos Club

We are a 2 hour drive from our preferred VW service centre and want to make a one time only visit to have the problem fixed - can someone with access to the current replacement part number tell me what it is so I can make sure one is in stock at the dealer before making a warranty service booking. There are references to part numbers 076 906 051B and 076 906 051A in posts related to this problem.

Thank you in anticipation - silvershadow

          076 906 051A is listed for "EU4 plus" exhaust emission standard (PR-7MB)

          076 906 051B is listed for "EU5" (PR-7MG) and "EU6 Diesel" (PR-7ME)

Neither of these are listed for the EOS though.

The only one listed for the EOS seems to be 03G 906 051A (not 036 906 051A as noted in your post).

It is 076 906 051B and it is made in Malaysia.

edit: I doubt that there would be any difference, the above no. is for the Tiguan. In our Touareg is the same p/n as listed for Tiguans and Golfs MK5.

Just be prewarned that I swapped my sensor over, and my car is now doing horrible regens weekly or less, and it's simply horrible to drive when it is doing so. I researched it and found a recalibration is required, and have tried the forced Vag Com regen, but that hasn't fixed it. I have to admit defeat and take it to VW for a checkup. Perhaps it is just my car, but it was fine and rarely regenning till this sensor went, now it's a different car, and horrible to boot.

Thanks everyone for the responses - the Eos TDI is a standard VAG engine with no modifications specific to the Eos. Information from the Eos forum has detailed installation of the 51B sensor and it is mandatory to recalibrate the system after installation.

As a matter of interest , I am intending to purchase a Ross-Tech VCDS system when the car comes out of warranty - if any one has one of these, I would appreciate advice if the information supplied with the kit includes instructions for the recalibration or does this also require access to the VW workshop manuals or the Bentley service guides.

Graeme - you are right and this is the sensor currently fitted - my eyesight is not what it used to be.

There is a known problem with the USA manufactured sensor - there have not been any reports of problems with the Malaysian 51B replacement so far.

Faulty exhaust pressure sensors are known for clogging DPFs. Once they are 90% blocked, the ECU will not trigger a regeneration, nor can you perform a forced re-gen. The DPF will need to be replaced, along with the exhaust pressure sensor, as well as an adaptation of the new pressure sensor.

Hi Greg, see my above reply. I hope this isn't the case for you. I may have mentioned it previously in a PM, but you'll need to perform an adaptation of the new exhaust pressure sensor. How you do this with VAG-Com, I don't know. Prehaps Jmac etc, may be able to walk you through it.

Just out of interest, can the DPF be removed or replaced with a dummy unit?

They're actually closer to $2,500 exchange through VW. Then there's the hour or so in labour to swap it over.
