Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

            Tiguan roof rail removal???

Just a quick question here before I drop into the dealer tomorrow... I'm planing to get my roof wrapped in gloss black (and the mirrors) to match the wheels on my Tig. The guy that's doing the job said that it will look better and much cheaper if the rails can be removed for the job..
So does anyone know if it's possible? and if yes, how?
            Cheers!

Check the forum, it was posted before. More than 18 months ago though.

Yes sorry, found it! PITA of a job and not worth it for this job. The vinyl will have to be cut around the rails- no biggy!! Will post pics once done. Thanks!

Hi there +1 to the pics please, I'd be really interested to see how it looks wrapped. Also let me know what they charged you. I've been through this whole scenario about a year ago and too realised what a pain it would be to remove the rails due to the hidden bolts under the headliner! When I realised how much work was involved I decided to leave it. I wanted to paint my roof gloss black and my trusted bodyshop recommended the removal of the rails AND the sunroof and rubber strips!

The partial removal mentioned earlier to get to the bolts is interesting though.
