  • Diesel Enhancements

    Hi All,

Had my Tig for about 6 weeks now after much waiting. In general I'm finding that the diesel is really good in power and also in fuel economy.

However, I have read numerous posts about all these 125 TSI drivers who are or in the process of mod-chipping their Tig to enhance the driving experience. My question is has anybody thought of or actually chipped a diesel and what where the results.

And if this has occured, what chip was used and if any further info on this would be appreciated.

I'll also apologise if there has been a post earlier on about this topic, you know how it is 38 years old, eyesight failing

    Thanks

    Apls

I've had a chipped diesel for 3+ years and its fantastic. The difference is night and day when it comes to power!

I say do it, get a nice free flowing air filter/intake (see Greg's tinker thread), and chip the beast. Then enjoy

In your shoes I'd just chip the thing, as it gives by far the biggest bang for buck. The 103kw chipped is quite a torque monster, my boss has a chipped 103 Eos and I reckon I'd have nothing on him despite the weight difference.

Also, given your car's age, I'd suggest one of the premium "chips" such as the ones from Guy H that have true stealth features, to preserve your warranty. Other, cheaper chips are very obvious to anyone looking at the tune counter in the ECU.

Oettinger do an ecu remap to boost power figures to 125kw.
Not sure if it has been done yet by anyone in Australia.

I am also aware of a DPF delete for newer VW Diesels but not sure if it is compaitble with the Tiguan.

the DPF delete works for any transverse engines VAG car I think (Gav chime in please!)

I know someone with the Oettinger tune. Went well

I know it works for any transverse engines but the 4Mo system adds a level of complication that is not normnally on the golf platform diesel cars.

Would have to check with Gavin (Custom Code) to see if they have a solution for the Tiguan.

To my understanding it's designed for the PD BMN 125kw engine, unsure if they have a tune to suit the newer CR 103kw DPF engines as yet.

Deleting the DPF will definately void your warranty, it's kinda hard to hide the fact!

Talk to Mark at Power Torque, Brendale QLD.

We'll be able to share results of our TDI as soon as ours is done.

i have a remapped diesel polo- if you go with any reasonably known tuning company, you're not going to need some special warranty- your car will be fine. i've had a tune on my car for... a year and a half. not one single issue- not even on my ''track'' map, on a brutally hot summer's day.

as for the difference it makes- it's good. on a recent ''cruise'', my humble little polo diesel was comfortably keeping up with golf gti's in the twisties.

but do lots of reading, because there are quite a few companies, be they piggyback style modules, or full remaps, for the diesel.

some (like oettinger) will cost you an arm and a leg, and others might only cost you 250pounds, sent over from the UK in a box.... the cheaper one will NOT be inferior to the bright, shiny brand name one. here are a few companies:

                    oettinger
                    superchips/ bluefin
                    viezu
                    custom code
                    p-tronic
                    chip-express
                    DTUK
                    giac
                    revo technik
                    evolve technik
                    diesel-power.com
                    etc......

good luck. chip that diesel- you'll never be able to live without decent torque, ever again.

                        BLUEfin & Tiguam TDI 103

                        hi,

I.m consider remap for my TDI am close to ordering a bluefin unit

                        by Superchips

They offer both handheld device you attach to diag port which saves the original map and applies the upgraded one or a workshop remap like the oettinger

claims similar results to Oettinger for about 1/3 the cost for the self applied remap. but i gather some later VW diesels have the ecu encrypted
and need to be remapped in the workshop. at similar costs to Oettinger

                        Any experiences or comments appreciated

It's not only the later cars that need the new method, earlier versions of the EDC17 Ecu's are now being updated at VW service to the later encryption.

So you may be able to program your car today with a cheap hand held unit, but after a service, you may not.

On the power outputs, honestly, run a trial of each in your car - I'm pretty sure you will find a noticeable difference between the products. It's not all about the numbers.

There you go! Another great benefit from getting your car regularly updated for free, when you take it in for a genuine service.
