  • Does anyone replace antenna of Tiguan

I saw team_v's photo with his Tiguan's antenna replaced with a shorter one, does anyone know how to replace the antenna and any brands you can recommend?

I have an OEM Sharan Antenna Replica on my tiguan. I got it from Tim at Dub Addiction.

All you have to do in unscrew the factory antenna from the base and screw in the new one.

It just unscrews from the base.

I picked up the Sharan replica stubby antenna from Dubaddiction it was cheaper than getting one off ebay at the time.
Tim is a forum member and very good to work with.
Shipping was fast and everything works well, no loss in reception.

I replaced mine two years ago !! BUT I've just read that you can simply pull the knob off the end (heat helps evidently) then cut to the desired length and "goop" the end back on !! Problem solved (unless you cut it tooooooooooo short I guess )

        Cheers

Hmmm...that sounds a bit drastic cutting it down. Does it actually work without reducing reception???

If you live in the city/Sydney metro area, you can just screw off the aerial and still get clear reception 95% of the time. Suits me and cheap to!

It's exactly the same as you get with a shorter antenna and evidently works just fine. The model I got is effectively just that, the old one but cut shorter !! Now that I realise how simple it is I would do it myself without hesitation.

                Tiguan antenna

Can anyone werify that their replacement stubby antenna does not affect the factory navigation?

When I was looking at stubbie antennae for sale, many of them state that they are not suitable for Sat Nav.

                Thanks,
                Letig

Did your car come with factory sat nav?
If so it should have a sharkfin antenna on the roof, this would be the receiver for the GPS signal.

The stubby antenna is for the AM/FM radio and is a whip style entanna which is the one we have been replacing.

The radio is not something I specialize or spend a lot of time with, but isn't the original antenna also DAB antenna?

I don't think so, it's just a bit of metal covered in plastic/rubber with a thread on the end.
                      Happy to be corrected though.

I don't use my radio, it's purely music from the SD card.

I do have the factory sat nav...it came with the long ugly antenna, not the shark fin. Can't say I've seen one Tig with the shark fin in my travels.

I have fitted on e of the smaller 'bee sting" style antennas, and it looks great and fits well, but it has compromised radio reception quite a bit unless in the heart of suburbia. I am out on the outskirts of the Sydney metro area, and it does crackle a bit now..

But all worth it for the better look...and I use the other forms of media most of the time anyway...

I have one of those, too, Tigger. Though i have been able to drive from Melbourne to both Torquay & Bendigo without loss of signal. I usually have JJJ on (or MP3 or CD) but i do think the ABC pumps out a stronger signal, for some reason.
