Just as a comparison, have shopped around for pricing in Brisbane on 3yr/45k Logbook Service on 2010 Tig 103TDi - first price was $750 from Austral VW in Newstead, then $525 from Norris VW in Kedron, and settled on $440 from Valley Car Clinic in Newstead. That's one hell of a mark-up from Austral...didn't purchase from them in the first place due to horrible customer interactions with the sales guy, and this has just confirmed why few people go there. Conveniently located for inner city dwellers yes, but not $310 worth of convenience!
sigpic MY2011 Tiguan 103 TDi 7spd-DSG, Deep Black Pearl Effect, Comfy Pack, MDi, OEM Tow Package, Tint - LOVE this car!
Just had my 45k service at a local VW dealer and the cost was $640, which included a brake fluid flush (the car wasn't 2 years old at the 30k service).
I decided to get it serviced closer to home as opposed to the dealer I purchased the Tig from, being about 30 k's away....which i had the last 2 services with.
Anyways, the price quoted was about the same, but one thing that amused me was the phone call i received half way through the service about the "recommended extras"......
A/C sanitization $135
Injector clean $135
Front and rear wipers $115 set
Obviously I said no to all, and yes i know they all up-sell but isn't a/c sanitization just a $20 dollar autoglym bottle??
Injector clean....do i really need it?...and if so, at what interval?
Wipers....I know they are pricey, but at at $115 a set!!.....would appreciate someone recommending an on-line store i could purchase a set.
Obviously if I accepted them all, it would have cost me in excess of $1000...
Cheers

Those upsells are usually handled by staff based at the dealership, but employed by a third party company like Fortron.
The A/C bombs and throttle body cleaners do work, but the jury is still out in my opinion on the injector and fuel system cleaners. A lot of their cleaning units are quite intrusive and crude to setup or adapt to alot of cars. Meaning a lot of butchered fuel line fittings, among other things. From my hands-on experience with them, on a lot of cars it's not a very efficient way to make money. They usually allow around 30mins start to finish, but on some cars, that's used up in just hooking it up and putting it back together, plus clearing missfire fault codes, etc.
Wiper blades do vary in price. $115 would be the full blade, not just the insert, plus labour of course.

I just bought s new Tiguan. 130kw. Diesel. I singed to have the car serviced for the next six years at a very good price. $333. Which I thought was pretty good.
I do a 30k with brake fluid for almost half that price! And I don't try to upsell crap. Maybe I'm selling myself short?

...or maybe it's not your main income?
Because, for the 1/2 the cost of $333 when you paid for the parts, there is not much of the profit left, definitely not enough to pay tax and other bills.
Shhh it's a secret. Still pay the tax man but no overheads when your workshop is part of your house.

Well good luck to you. It sounds like you really underselling yourself and it seems kind of unsustainable if you run a legitimate business. It's definitely not enough to pay for the public liability insurance and the workshop insurance.

Just noticed the Yeti front blades falling apart. Took them off to see how easy it would be to just do the blade. Looked like a standard old fashioned wiper refill would probably fit. The originals have an extra wide back. Got some Trico refills with the stainless steel strips on the sides. Don't need those strips, but the blades are very similar shape to the original. Never had a problem with Trico rubber.
Current arms are slightly different design at the ends. The screwdriver in the end when levered twists the two springy strips slightly off the plastic hooks on the end cap, which are rigid (so don't try to bend the plastic). Easy to remove both end caps. Used armor all on the rubber aerofoil to rejuvenate and the blade to help lubricate, since it was a snug fit.
So now got new rubber on the wiper arms, reused the old wiper arms.
$5 for the pair of Trico refills (TTR610) from a bargain shop! Normally $10-15 a pair.
Will be doing the Polo tomorrow if the blades are looking shabby. (Pretty sure I haven't paid to have them swapped out yet at 6yrs still going! Often drive without wipers using RainX.)
Plan B would be to use the Bosch aero blades. (But the only really vulnerable part on the original is the aerofoil rubber.)

When I bought my Tig in May it came with capped price servicing for 6 years. I assume this is a VW thing as my dealer (Bryan Byrt) has just gone in to receivership.
