Started watching this forum mid last year in part of my research to replacing my poor old 2006 Honda Accord. Only reason to replace initially was to improve holidays with our Avan aliner camper van. I then got into everything else good about the TIG! i don't want to race it as get enough fast driving during my work life (emergency services). I love the safety and the fuel economy of a deisel is not to be sniffed at. I will concede that even the petrol models are brilliant when it comes to that. The main reason I wanted to change was to improve the towing ability.
Let me please say that it tows like tractor, rides like a limo, has the appointments of most luxury vehicles and runs on the smell of an oily rag. Just took my van up to Townsville and back (from southeast QLD) and could not be happier. Have only had our Tig since 31/03, but were able to put 2000 km on it before Anzac day so we could take the van for a run. It now has 6000km on it and performance wise was amazing! Rarely did it get out of sixth gear even on hills and the fuel economy whilst towing was better than we could get without the van for the Accord (4cyl petrol). Fuel to km travelled as per the bowser and the odometer/ trip meter was less than 8.5 l/100km, whilst towing a van that grosses at approx 1 tonne. We went coastal up and back down the centre back and never had the worry of whether we would make to the next BP servo. Range of approx 750 km allowing for a reasonable safety margin.
Thank you to all contributors to this forum for your input to my research. You helped me make the best decision of my life ( well at least as good as marrying my wife of twenty seven years).
ps i ended up buying a MY2010(actual date 01/01/2010) 103 TDI Candy white with comfort pack, off road tech, MDI, Fogs, Towbar and they accidentally included Privacy glass
