thanks for the info Transporter, any additional info/links on Mobil 1 would be great

I'm a firm believer of new is better, like no matter how far technology has advanced i still don't think having new oil in the engine is a bad thing.

So i'll be changing my oil every 6 months as said previously (i don't do many K's easily less than 10k per year) and getting it serviced at a specialist at the normal service intervals.

Petrol. Diesel engines have their own fair share of the troubles. But, hey it's not that different to any other manufacturer. There are not many things today that are made to last.

Mobil1 is available in 20L from the Mobil distributor in your state. But as I said don't chase it and don't pay much more for it than for anyother 504/507.00 approved oil, since they will perform equally in your engine.

edit: after 2 oil changes using mobil1 and then trying Liqui Moly, my wife who drives the Tiguan noticed 0.1-0.2L worst fuel economy when compared to Mobil1 (the next day after the oil change), that's all. I will cofirm that in few months time after I switch back to mobil1. She does the same trips every day and at the same time of the day.

Warning Will Robinson - I think it's the same story with proper Castrol Edge Professional (approved by VW) Oil - as Transporter mentioned. Penrite might be better option?! Definitley availible in 5L (Enviro+ 5W30 I think it's called - can confirm on another thread here), and has "Approved by Volkswagen" written on it. I used Penrite all the time in previous cars myself - is good stuff, and you are supporting locals (it is still Australian owned - I think).
There you go - refer Transporters post (above), he the man

                  thanks for the heads up,

unfortunately i've just changed oil with the VW purchased castrol edge. Next oil change is a good 6 months away so i've got time to wait for another sale

After reading how the genuine Castrol VW rated oil is expensive I was pleasantly surprised when I went to Kloster VW parts for some top up oil for my new Tig 147TSI and was told $28 something for 1lt so I got the 5lt bottle for $78.05

                        guys,

my oil light warning just flashing again, do you guys need to top up every year?

i'm on 24ish km and service was done at 14k km.

last year i was topped up using castrol edge sport 5w-30 but looks like they have changed to castrol edge titanium, has anyone using castrol edge titanium ?,are they the same product?

since shop is closed now, is it ok to drive with the light flashing? the oil just above minimum level last time i check

                        thanks in advance

I would say it is either using excess oil for some reason, or was under-filled at your last service. Put some oil in ASAP, a dealer will provide what you need. Not sure if the Castrol comes in a 1 litre bottle or not if you are far from a dealership?
I'm doing 10000km oil changes in mine, & the oil level only seems to drop about 3mm from full on the dipstick over that distance.

No, I don't have to top-up but I do feel compelled to check my fluid levels about every 3-4 months.

Just put some masking tape over the flashing light & keep driving. You'll be right.

if it is flashing...top it up...but only a little bit!!!

some people panic and overfill it when the light comes on.

it probably only needs a cup full at the most!

                                Hi everyone
I have the same question, Just got Tiguan 155,22000Km have done, but the engine oil still has enough just seems very dark and smelled now. previous owner used to put hard to engine when start driving, not good for longlife to engine.
I want to change the engine oil, need to change the filter as well? what kind of engine oil is better? needs any additives to treats it better?
                                Thanks in advance
                                Lucas
