  • Fuel tank capacity?

The owner's manual sez ~65l. I put in ~75l when I fill up when the 'low fuel' warning comes on.

The last 10l takes forever to put in , so I assume I'm interfering with some safety device by doing so?

What is your experience in this regard?

The fuel warning comes on when the range drops to 30km.

I filled up the car the other time when there was only 5km left which means the tank was almost empty; and got about 62 litres in.

It takes time , roughly 15 minutes, to get the add 13l in ! It's worth the trouble as I do a lot of long distance travel and 50ppm/low sulphur diesel is not available in the rural areas...

        Hey canam,
        Is yours diesel or petrol?

Just wondering why you would want to try and put in more than the manual states? Do you do long trips?

I fill up when it gets down to 30-50km remaining. My diesel takes 60-61 litres every time, to the second cut-off. You can see the fuel up into the filler neck. Foaming does not seem to be a big issue. I once tried to trickle fill it further, and after only a couple of litres more it overflowed (yuck).
I then have a range of about 750-800km, so I can forget about refilling again for a long time, and as diesel prices aren't cyclical, I fill up when its empty, not on a Thursday

There is NO way you can put in a addition 10lites in a tiggy. 1 litre maybe, 10 no way
I would go to a diffrent service station as you are obviously being short changed.

I agree. I cant really understand how you can fit 75L of petrol in a 65L Tank ?

I'd say its a dodgy servo!

                    Hi all,

                    What borbor, you here too?

73l easy, more than once, different filling stations. Just be patient. Takes it in in 150ml quantities.

So where does the extra fuel go? Follow attached link and read the bit about the fuel tank: http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/VW/Misc...StudyGuide.pdf

The tank is in two parts, and I suspect the last bit - to get the fuel in the furthest half - has difficulty in burping the air due to an intricate path. Then again, it could also be stored in the expansion tank, which seems quite large.

Exactly what I've experienced - patience be the key, though!

I've come back into Sydney on the end of the F3 with the warning light flashing telling me it's has 5km to go, and 0km once I pulled into the first shell on the left on the pacific highway, I put in 64.5 litres, wouldn't want to work it much finer than that...
