    Hi all,

I'm picking up my 103 in a month and have read with interest the threads on the petrol Tigs and the chips and mods others have done.

My question to all is what have others done with their diesels? I know there are options to chip (DP chip, Hiclone) or is the use of an additive the way to go.

As I live in central Qld I don't have the option of accessing the Ultimate diesel that is available in the south east, so I'm looking for options that may improve my Tig in any way

    Cheers

I don't know much about diesels, but I'd beware of 'chips' other than something like Oettinger, and a Hiclone may just make your Tig run worse!

There's heaps of info in the Golf section if you can't get what you want here.

Castor based 2 stroke oil is the go, mate.

Castrol R30 is cheap and good stuff. Yamalube is fantastic.

I'm being serious. Drop about 300-400ml in the tank when you fill up. It should idle a bit smoother and quieter- especially when cold, while giving it a little more go and about 5% better fuel economy.

Do a forum search, there was a thread on it in the diesel section i think. internet search should dig up some info on it too.

Have a look in here, be careful what you add to the diesel fuel, think about the DPF. The factory warranty doesn't cover the damages caused by contaminated fuel. If you want to/have to then use only purpose made diesel additives! I'm using Morey's Diesel Engine Smoke Killer in all our VW cars all the time. Every oil change I use one bottle of Wurth Common Rail Diesel additive.

I agree withTransporter, don't be led astray by what you read on websites...... and what you put in your tank.

We have the 103 and the only additive we put in is one that will help destroy any bacterial bugs in the tank and helps to increase the Cetane level slightly. To reduce getting any bugs keep your tank as full as you can "most of the time" as the bugs breed in the airspace in tropical conditions. Do this if you are not driving it for a while too...

But back to your question - more oompf from the TDI = Oettinger! Don't go with ANY other chip.

Hiclones are are MYTH! Don't blow your cash.

Alternatively you could simply buy good Diesel, such as the Caltex Vortex. Unfortunately BP Ultimate has not been available for months now. Don't put crap in your tank, you'll end up regretting later...

Yep, buy the best diesel you can, Caltex Vortex diesel is what I currently use. I put a bottle of Fuel Doctor through the TDI about every 10k, but any top end diesel specific fuel additive will be a good idea from time to time. I'd HIGHLY recommend installing a "provent" to reduce the oil blowby, but only if you are keeping the car beyond 100k. Sub that I doubt you'll encounter mechanical problems, but it does indeed get sludgey in there!! I'd agree to go with a proven chip company, as a lot of the cheapies are extremely obvious to the VW service guy, the better ones are far more stealth. You do indeed get what you pay for there. The 103 is prone to turbo failure if exhaust gas temps get too high, so in your shoes I'd be going with something widely proven, as a few of the older PD103's have popped a turbo, and I'd bet my missus it was from pushing the turbo too far into surge ( where it basically cavitates against itself ). Nasty stuff.

Given your location, down the track I'd highly recommend doing some intercooler ducting ala "Polar" style, and even going to an intercooler water spray of you really want to handle the heat. The ducting alone improved my TDI intercooler function quite dramatically according to my digital temp meter, but first things first.
My tinker threads in the Diesel section will tell you all you need to know there if you get really bored!

              Welcome to the diesel club!

                  Hi Transporter,

are you still using Morey's in your tiguan? There's so many threads out there with different advice, I thought I saw one in the diesel section saying smoke killer not to be used in a CRD engine with dpf...and to use the Wurth's product. I do mainly inner city driving so I want to be putting the right stuff in to make my dpf last as long as possible. thanks

I use it only in my T5 and our GolfMK5 and in the cars with PD injectors and mechanical injection pumps and of course without DPF.
In Touareg and Tiguan I use WURTH and also Fuel doctor. WYNNS also make CR injector cleaner.

                      Hi Transporter,

I would like to clarify a recommended additive for my 2010 103TDI Tiguan.
                      In General Stuff/Diesel Additive

                      Transporter 28 March 2010
"I'm using Morey's Diesel Engine Smoke Killer in all our VW cars all the time."
                      then
                      Transporter 25 Feb 2011
"I use it only in my T5 and our GolfMK5 and in the cars with PD injectors and mechanical injection pumps and of course without DPF. In Touareg and Tiguan I use WURTH and also Fuel doctor."
Does that mean that you would not use or recommend Moreys in the 103TDI Tiguan ?
                      Thanks for any help,

I'm using Moreys Diesel Smoke Killer now in all our cars. Moreys didn't have on the bottle with the additive written that it was suitable for vehicles with the DPF. However, few months ago I asked the Moreys rep about that and he said that it was suitable and their MSDS paper stated that.

edit; I stopped buying the Fuel Doctor, but still use WURTH and Liqui Moly additives (only every 5k-7.5k km).
