Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Now my whole arm shakes when I go over 95kmh!!!
Well, as some one above suggested put the original wheels back on, do them up correctly, take it for test drive and let us know.

Yes, it takes 2k-5k km's to show up.

Just swap your wheels back tigger - easy, and then you can either stop worrying and go and wrestle with your tyre guy, or really start worrying!

If it is still there, I probably wouldn't be putting the aftermarket wheels back on and driving it into my dealer for a claim.

well!!! for all interested in the update...

After more than two hours of time again at the tyre place, I have lost patience. They did all number of things etc and tried to sort it out. Things such as rebalancing, stripping and refitting etc etc

I had some of the guys acting rudley to me, as if I had nothing better to do than waste their time..AAARRRGGGHHH!!! I had work to do today which cost me over three hundred dollars...

Anyway, as you have all suggested, the original wheels and tyres are back on, with the original bolts.

I drove it on a long stretch of perfectly smooth straight freeway in the country, way past the required speeds and guess what???? NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!!! In fact they were perfect!

So I reckon that the Advanti wheels have somehow either gone out of shape, or the tyres have distorted over the last few thousand kms, OR as suggested...THE BOLTS ARE INCORRECT causing the wheels to sit in a wrong manner etc.

So now they have to "get back to the wheel supplier" and get in new tyres until it is all sorted.

I hope this does not go on too much longer. I might just stick to the originl wheels and forget about it...how disheartening

          Hey Tigger,
do you have a picture of the wheels? It would be good to post it here. If you already didn't.

Yeh let us know what you have. But it's a good result - at least it's NOT the Tig!

I have posted pics before under the heading "new wheels" about a month ago.

I had trouble putting the pic on, so I dont want to try doing so again and stuffing anything up. If you would like to see the wheels, please look back on that previous thread.

I am really dissapointed, as I really liked the wheels. (advanti concepts. on a black tiguan)

The wheel rep is going to be contacted on monday, to see what the real issue is. I hope it can be resolved, as I would like these back on if possible.

I still am leaning toward the bolts being the issue. They are not tapered like the originals, and I feel that they are not securing the wheels properly, or coming loose somehow.

Will keep you all posted. Thanks for the helpful suggestions too!

There might be your problem! With the tyre fitters like these some one will get killed one day with the wheel coming off.
You have to always use the right bolts.

                        Hi All...

Sorry for the delay in updating re this issue. I have just heard back from the wheel place and the makers / importers of the wheels. Thay now say that it is the plastic hub locater rings that have worn away and caused the problem!.
So they have made up metal locater rings, and I am still waiting on them to re-fit the wheels so I can try them at highway speed again.
Hopefully it will be done soon, as I have lost patience.
Will keep you informed when this test has been done. Thanks

Plastic locator rings? I'd be scared putting these back on even if they make up something new. I'd be getting my money back and buying something else. Shame really, they looked great!

Yep, I too am hesitant, but will give it a try with the new locater rings they have produced. The test will be when I hit 100kph and more. If there is the slightest repeat of the initial vibrations...they are being returned with a big "money back" demand.

I do not want to live the life of my tig with any compromises in safety and handling. (shame...as I really like the look of these wheels...)

Has anyone else with aftermarket wheels had problems like this?

I had a BMW and put new tyres on and had the same problem. Tyre dealer could not do anything. A friend suggested an on car balance. I took it to Bob Jane at Granville and Bingo!.... problem fixed
