Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 5 Star Safety Rating

Just spotted this thread on vortex.
The 5 star rating was a major influencing factor in my purchase.
Good to see they hold up so welwhen it all goes to *****.

This one was 55MPH (88km/hr) into the rear of another car which pulled out in front of the driver.

And another one here at 75-80MPH (120-130km/hr) run up the rear

I have only ever bought two cars new - and safety was a significant consideration in both. For those curious, first was a series 2 liberty, loved that car and think they were one of the best sube made, but my love afair with subies diminished with some poorer experiences later on and here I am now at VW

I must say the 55mph one is quite impressive, cabin of car looks untouched

on the 80mph one, dealer posting those should have made more of an effort in presentation - great chunks of metal hanging out doors and look of the rear didn't leave me feeling inspired. F.... there goes the kids.....
But look closely, the big chunks are just the front and rear plastic bumpers thrown in the car for convenient storage, not there from the accident. Still rear looked nasty, mind you 80mph is serious impact thats almost two tonnes of metal (more if a yank SUV) moving at close to 40 m/sec.

I did a double take as well when i saw the second one.
Realised it was the bumpers that they had placed in the car after the wreck.
          Also noticed the curtain airbags.

According to the owner, the car flipped end over end 2-3 times before rolling side over side 6 times.
Walked away with a few scratches.
