Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Got my VIN - now what?

    Hi all

Am very excited and have my VIN for my Tig. Still no idea as to the exact ETA.

Anyone know how I can decode it?

    Cheers,

    Mainne.

You should be able to use the vin number to locate your vehicle on the tracking website.
There is a sticky in the mk6 section that tells you how to do this.
The decoder won't work for my10 cars as the year 2010 has changed the layout of the vin.

When did you order your car???
I ordered January and still don't have the Vin.

      Thanks Team V.

I think we also spoke in another thread. Ordered in the first week of December.

I have confirmed it is a 2010 build, so perhaps the decoder won't work for the Tig.

Anyone know how long it takes roughly to receive the car after getting the VIN?

Ahh that's right, i remember now.

If it is built in 2010 the decoder won't work as the mk6 VIN's are stating 1985 build dates due to the new VIN useage.

If you have the VIN they have probably started buiding your car so i would hazard a guess at 6 weeks shipping and compliance, then another week or so to pick it up from the dealer.

Maybe ask your dealer if they have a propowsed delivery date for you.

Dealer fitted options will also add on extra time to the delivery date.

I may well be wrong but I was told that you only get the VIN after the vehicle has been produced. Could be that's changed over the years though.

          Cheers

I was told the VIN was allocated before building begins, however your vehicle won't show up on the tracking site until it is finished production and is ready to load onto the ship.

Could have been a furphy from the dealer though.

              Guys,

I ordered my car on 20 Jan 2010 and was told that I have to wait for 15 weeks (maximum) before delivery.

Yesterday my dealer called and told me that my Tiguan will be built on Week 12th (i.e. end of March 2010). He also told me that from then on it takes about 8 weeks to delivery. Is this estimate close enough?

              Thanks.

              Regards,
              XTX

Ok, expect to cop some grief for suggesting this.....

I know it is a common practce where more people want a car than what a manufacturer can provide (especially in Asian countries eg Hong Kong).....

                    - SELL YOUR SPOT IN THE QUEUE....

You get offered a discount for waiting 4 - 6 months.
eg $50,000 if you buy now, $46,000 if you wait 6 months.
eg Offer the car for on the forums for $48,000 with a wait of 8 weeks & delivery KM's with a VIN from the dealer.
Pocket $2000 and order another vehicle......
I know you are in love with your vehicle (tigs are awesome) and won't do this, but food for thought - Tiguans are in demand (as are golfs and other VW products).....
VW around the world (log on to many of the international forums and watch the delays everywhere) are facing delays.

Just so you know, I have a Tig on order, got the VIN number.....
I won't be selling my spot in the queue!
However people do this in other parts of the world - both buyers & sellers are happy.

VW wants to lift their production levels...
I suppose they make great cars that people want and are willing to wait for...

                      Well - it's finally on a ship

Just looked up the VIN and it looks like my Tig was loaded on the "Morning Conductor" on 1 March 2010.

Unfortunately, it isn't scheduled to land in Melbourne until 7 April 2010. Ouch!

Over 3 months since I ordered - but at least there is an end in sight.

                        That is good news then.
Expect a further 2 week delay after it lands for customs and ADR compliance and then another 2 days for delivery to the dealer and prep work.

Makes me want to hear news of mine
