Gremlins in the electronics

Last night I popped out for some ice cream, locked the Tig, bought said ice cream, double chocolate, opened Tig with the key fob but the interior lights didn't turn off when starting. Left it about 10 seconds but still on

I then noticed that the MFD was showing the outline of the car that indicates if doors are open. This didn't go away when I backed out and started driving, the interior lights remained on. I was unable to change the MFD to show other functions

When I got home I turned it off but the lights remain on, I locked and unlocked but still the same. I started and stopped the engine a few time and it seemed to resolve

Any one else had an issue such as this?

I've had the MFD "lock up" on the basic display of the car outline before but it always resolved itself after a start or two. Nothing other than that in my case.

do you have any non-OEM stuff installed? - e.g. SATNav, head unit, other audio gear, towbar etc.

Only thing not standard on it is the rubber mat in the boot.

Seems to have resolved itself at the moment but will be talking to dealer if it happens again

ahh, that'll be it. See the Tig has all sorts of sensors that detect non-genuine parts, inlcuding non-OEM rubber mats. These sensors sniff out this sort of thing, and of course, as they interface with the car's main ECU through the CAN bus system, it'll be getting all sorts of weird readings from that non genuine mat. Pull it out and your problems will disapear I'm sure.

I'm actually glad that someone else has brought this up. I've noticed the same thing. When having the Satnav active, I was scrolling through to change a station on the radio and when I went to go back it skipped through to all of the normal settings except the Satnav info on the MFD.

On another occasion, I put the car in reverse and the review camera didn't come up.

Also, just last night, I was driving along and went to change tracks on my ipod and all of a sudden the "up" and "down" arrows stopped working!

Things things have only happened once but if it starts again I'll be taking it back for a check up!

I think we all need to remember that modern cars are "run" by computers and each attached accessory (such as radio, ipod etc etc etc) then has its own computer. I use a computer all day everyday for design work and even though it's one of the most reliable in the world it occasionally starts to do some funny things and I have to "restart" or something to get it all back to normal. It's a simple fact that electronics can and do get "side tracked" at times. Often I think we unknowingly create the problem ourselves by using a "sequence" of commands or failing to wait for something to switch off correctly before expecting it to something else. Generally these issues are easily fixed with a "re-boot" of some kind. The good old "switch it off, wait 20 seconds and then switch it on again" is usually the "cure".
