Failed tailgate release

I went to open the tailgate with the release button the other day and it did't work. Every time I press the button on the tailgate all you can hear is a motor whining and the tailgate stays shut. Even pressing the button on the remote does the same thing...the only way to open it is with the manual release on the inside (had to read the manual for that one).

Called both VW dealers in Brisbane the earliest it could be looked at was end of the week...painful.

I read on Vortex a guy had to get a new release assembly fitted under warranty as his wasn't unlocking properly.

There have been a few cases where the car has been locked with the tailgate ajar. We had one do it, and the only way we could get it open was via output dagnosis on the VAS5052. After that, it was fine.
