Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    tyres and economy

I will try to get a photo of the tyres and the TIG.

I need to get the economy into perspective. I was getting an average of 5.4 l/100 for an average 250 k trip. It went up to about 6.4 l/100 for the same trip. Given that the advertised average is 7.4 - I am still in front. I do want to get back to the lower average - it is a bit of a personal challenge now. I am going to look into the Eagles or the low rolling Michelins. Any thoughts?

The advertised av you refer is for combined, I think your figs are for mostly hwy driving? I note the Greenguide now has a hwy fig for the 2010 diesel tig and I think its about 5.4/5.5.

Anyway that aside, see the SMH article I referred above for more info on the low roll michelins.

I'm interested in them, but have no direct experience and we've probably got another 40-50thou in ours before changing, so no voice of experience I'm afraid. You could say that you are on the Vw forum, you have an economy focussed car in the diesel tig and will gladly speak highly of the Michillens in the forum if they work well and see if they will give you some kind of discount etc. To do that though you may need to write/talk with Michelin head office. Just a thought, you'd have nothing to lose or maybe they could arrange a fit of some as a trial?

        tiguan tyres

You are right - it is for the combined driving - and yes I do mainly do highway driving. All the same the change in economy was noticeable.

I like your idea about the offer of a trial and see what is offered.

Will let you know of I have any progress

Ideally all 4 tyres should be the same and the difference in O.D. should be no more than 10mm. Maybe you fuel consumption will improve when you replace remaining 2 tyres.

It's possible there was a recall for some Cooper CS4 tyres more here, but it doesn't mean that they're all bad, there are recalls for just about almost any product. I would still consider the Cooper tyre, though. They are good tyres.

Is there any recommended offroad tyres for a Tiguan ?
I would like to trip around Queensland and not have to worry about a single ply sidewall. A 15mm diameter increase is the maximum allowed.
The shortcut from "The FIRST Stop.....", to the Tiguan, wheels and tyres, offroad tyres is now finished.
Could we start it up again ?
